More Than The Gun
In this episode of More Than The Gun, host Harry Arruda sits down with Michael Wanik, a retired U.S. Army Military Police Officer, seasoned security executive, and influential thought leader in corporate security. With a distinguished career spanning roles in healthcare, biotechnology, and global security, Mike has led responses to some of the world’s most significant crises, including 9/11, the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, and the 2008 Mumbai terror attack. For over 14 years, Mike directed corporate security and emergency operations across multiple global regions for UnitedHealth Group, and later, as Senior Director of Corporate Security at United Therapeutics Corporation, he established and led the company’s entire security function. His responsibilities extended from managing multi-million-dollar budgets to crafting global risk mitigation strategies, with a focus on organizational resilience and business continuity. Named a Security Thought Leader in 2018 and recognized as one of the "Most Influential People in Security" in 2020 by Security Magazine, Mike now dedicates his expertise to mentoring the next generation of Chief Security Officers and advising corporations on public safety and security technology. He serves as a public safety advisor for Volt AI, where he contributes to real-time threat detection through video analysis. A dedicated veteran and active member of Disabled American Veterans and Wreaths Across America, Mike shares his time between North Carolina and Connecticut, where he’s enjoying a well-deserved retirement while continuing to make a lasting impact in the security sector.
