In which JD and Jarrod talk about products Jim Henson advertised, the unexpected dark side of Fraggle Rock, the return of Ma Bear, the introduction of a new Muppet character, and much more! Note that this is just the audio from the show. For the complete experience, watch the video on YouTube [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=caLKdlHhrAs].

In this episode of Muppet Fans Talking, JD and Steve don’t talk about Muppets for the first hour. Would you expect anything less? Note that this episode was recorded weeks ago, so it doesn’t contain any recent Muppet/Henson news. Sorry about that. We talk aboutFollow That Bird though. So that’s cool. AndStranger Things. There are some minor spoilers for later seasons ofStranger Things. So do with that what you will. If you like the show, please give us a rating and review on Apple Podcasts!

This episode of MFT features my interview with Kevin Perjurer, known for his YouTube channel, Defunctland [https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVo63lbKHjC04KqYhwSZ_Pg]. Over the course of this past spring, this channel released a six-part documentary series on the works of Jim Henson, and I think it’s just lovely. I was so happy to get the chance to talk about it with Kevin! Here’s a link to the series: DefunctTV: Jim Henson [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVoGf1JTVeI&list=PLplWWKocAfTYIGzH8eQ0x0kEQgoV9CpYm] I recommend watching all of this documentary before listening to this episode of the podcast, but hey, it’s a free country. — J. D.

If you’re new to the show, don’t start with this episode. This episode is very strange. In this episode, I force CW to watch The Dark Crystal. All of it. While we’re hosting the podcast. Chaos ensues. (Also, please forgive my audio quality in this episode – something went horribly wrong with my microphone! Chaos ensues.) Enjoy! — J. D.

After many requests, and one whole year of thinking it over, I finally decided it was worth releasing this audio as a podcast. The video’s been up on YouTube for a year, which is why I was unsure as to whether this needed to be a podcast, but I think it does. This is worth listening to, if only so you get to hear some of Brian Jay Jones’ great stories about Jim. Over the course of this talk, Professor Brian Real and author Brian Jay Jones dive into Jim Henson history to show how Jim Henson’s work was not only the product of his imagination, but of the changes in the media landscape in his lifetime. This journey begins in a time when television is mostly local, small-budget productions and ends with the Walt Disney Company becoming the media juggernaut it is today. Brian Real taught the Jim Henson course at the University of Maryland, College Park (Jim Henson’s Alma Mater) for several years, and currently teaches at Southern Connecticut State University. You can purchase Brian Jay Jones’ best-selling biography of Jim Henson here [http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0345526112/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=211189&creative=373489&creativeASIN=0345526112&link_code=as3&tag=brjajoau-20], and pre-order his new book on Dr. Seuss here [https://amzn.to/2VVAZZ4].
