He received an undergraduate degree in Material Science from Moscow State University and earned a Ph.D. degree at Colorado State University. Dr. Peryshkov's current research revolves around the redox chemistry of main group elements and transition metal catalysis.

Dr. Afonin is a founding member and vice president of the International Society of RNA Nanotechnology and Nanomedicine.
