Transcultural Nursing, Cultural Competency & Empowering Refugee Families: A Conversation with Irena Papadopoulos

Welcome to On Nursing Potential, the podcast from the Journal of Research in Nursing. In this episode, we chat with Irena Papadopoulos, founder and former head of the Research Centre for Transcultural Nursing and Professor of Transcultural Health and Nursing at Middlesex University. Irena is also the lead author of the Journal of Research in Nursing's 2023 Veronica Bishop Paper of the Year Award winning paper, Empowering Refugee Families in Transit: The Development of a Culturally Competent and Compassionate Training and Support Package. Irena joins us to discuss the wider project from which this paper is taken (Intercultural Education of Nurses in Europe, or, IENE), her experience of working on creating a JRN graphic paper, and her deeply personal experience of refugeedom and its lasting impact on her contributions to transcultural nursing research and practice.
