One day, when taking her goat to pasture, a wise woman teaches her a chant that provides her with a wonderful meal each time it is recited. Suspicious that Little Two-Eyes no longer eats the scraps provided, her mother sends her sisters out to spy. When they discover her secret the mother puts an immediate stop to it and kills the goat. The wise woman appears again, and advises Little Two-Eyes to bury the goat's heart. She does, and a beautiful apple tree, (which can only be picked by Little Two-Eyes,) grows in its place, and ultimately leads to her salvation. Questions or Comments? Summary After King Gridelin neglects to invite any fairies to his daughter's christening, his wife disappears, leaving him to raise his daughter, the languid and lazy Placida, and his nephew, the lively and active Vivien. Unable to stay put for long, Vivien rides off one day, leaving the kingdom. Placida too leaves the kingdom with the help of the fairy Lolotte. After much time apart, and many harrowing adventures, the two are reunited in a distant land.
