PT Good Podcast
Directional preference is a commonly known term and observed phenomenon for most physical therapists. Despite this, the use of directional preference in spine care may not be optimal. In today's episode of the PT Good Podcast, Kane and Mark discuss using directional preference as an impairment to be treated. They discuss placing it at the top of your hierarchy impairments, and exhausting directional preference before moving on to other impairments. They also discuss exactly what 'clearing the spine' means to them and using the EXPOSS study to determine if a patient's extremity pain could be related to their spine.
