Radio Against Repression
From the Bantustans and townships of South Africa to the fractured lands of Palestine, overcoming apartheid has been a struggle across the lines of privilege. Radio Against Repression is joined live in the studio by the artist Adam Broomberg. As a descendent of Jews who fled the Holocaust but benefited as whites from the apartheid regime in South Africa, Broomberg witnessed the subtle interweaving of Zionist and apartheid ideologies. Adam joins Radio Against Repression to discuss the complex paradoxes of twentieth-century diasporic communities during a period of upheaval that continues to inform the artist’s interrogation of photography’s power, complicity and banality.
