Raiders in Focus
In this episode of Raiders in Focus, we’re joined by Dr. Steve Lyng, Head of Upper School, and Kelly Emerson, Associate Director of Admission, who stepped in for Glynn Below this month to chat about one of her favorite topics: life in Upper School. Steve gives an inside look at what makes Upper School at Randolph such a dynamic and supportive environment for students. He shares his journey to education, what drew him to Randolph, and the joys of leading a division where students grow academically, socially, and personally. He highlights signature experiences across grades, showing how milestones help students develop confidence, independence, and a sense of belonging. Key topics explored include Randolph’s philosophy of “high standards, high support,” the balance of academics with arts, athletics, and co-curricular opportunities, and the intentional approach to introducing new students to the Upper School community while supporting them along the way. Steve and Kelly also reflect on the meaningful partnerships between students, faculty, and families that make growth and success possible. It’s an engaging conversation about empowering students during their Upper School years and preparing them for life beyond Randolph.
