Descripción

Ranking The Smiths songs is not for the weak. In this episode of Record Room, we take on an impossible task: ranking our top 10 The Smiths songs. The Smiths are one of my favorite bands of all time, and this list reminded me why. From Johnny Marr’s unforgettable guitar work to Morrissey’s dramatic, funny, and painfully specific lyrics, their discography is filled with songs that feel timeless, emotional, strange, and completely their own. We talk through the classics, the fan favorites, the deep cuts, and the songs that shaped our taste, including “This Charming Man,” “Half a Person,” “I Know It’s Over,” and more. My Top 5 Rock Albums of the 2020s | Record Room Ep. 15

What are the best rock albums of the 2020s so far? In this episode of Record Room, I’m sharing my top 5 rock albums of the 2020s, featuring The Strokes, Fontaines D.C., The Smile, Alvvays, and Sam Fender. This isn’t meant to be a definitive ranking of every rock album from this decade. These are five albums I keep coming back to: The New Abnormal by The Strokes, Romance by Fontaines D.C., A Light for Attracting Attention by The Smile, Blue Rev by Alvvays, and People Watching by Sam Fender. From legacy and reinvention to tension, fuzz, nostalgia, and big emotional storytelling, each record makes a different case for why rock, indie rock, and alternative music still feel alive now. We also talk about songs like “The Adults Are Talking,” “Starburster,” “The Smoke,” “Belinda Says,” and “People Watching.” What are your top 5 rock albums of the 2020s so far? Why Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged Is One of the Greatest Live Performances Ever | Record Room Ep. 14

Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged in New York is one of the greatest live performances ever captured. In this episode of Record Room, we talk about the songs, covers, atmosphere, and choices that made this performance so unforgettable. From the unusual setlist and stripped back arrangements to The Meat Puppets section, the candlelit stage, and Kurt Cobain’s final vocal on “Where Did You Sleep Last Night,” this is our conversation about a performance that became part of music history. Nirvana did not give MTV a normal acoustic greatest hits show. They gave them deep cuts, strange covers, unexpected guests, and something far more intimate, fragile, and impossible to recreate. For this episode, we also brought candles and white Stargazer lilies into our own set as a small nod to the original MTV Unplugged stage. What is your favorite moment from Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged? This Spotify version has been edited for audio rights. For the full video episode with the music listening moments and live reactions, watch it on YouTube: https://youtu.be/BHU1UalbBP8 [https://youtu.be/BHU1UalbBP8] What happens when a classical composer listens to In Rainbows by Radiohead? In this episode of Record Room, I’m joined by composer and conductor Julián Fueyo to react to one of the most beloved Radiohead albums. We react to In Rainbows together and talk through the details that stood out to him as a composer, from the arrangements and textures to the rhythms, atmosphere, lyrics, and moments that make the album so special. It’s part reaction, part music conversation, and part me getting to hear one of my favorite records through someone else’s ears. Julián Fueyo is a composer and conductor whose work has reached over 10 million streams across platforms. He studied composition at Yale School of Music and the Cleveland Institute of Music, received the BMI Composer Award, and is a two-time ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Award winner.
