Red, White & Fast with Njisane Phillip

He announced his retirement in 2022. Two years later, he was back on the track, setting a personal best. Njisane Phillip is one of the most significant figures in the history of Trinidad and Tobago cycling. A two-time Olympian, Pan American champion, and the man widely credited with reviving sprint cycling in his country, he walked away from competition on his own terms and then returned to the track in a way nobody saw coming. In this opening episode of Red, White & Fast, host Dr. Peter Maharaj, who was trackside as T&T Cycling Team Manager and Coach at the London 2012 Olympic Games when Njisane finished fourth in the world, sits down with the man behind the legend for an honest, unfiltered conversation about what it really took to build that career, what life looked like after the bike, and what pulled him back. They talk about the journey from Siparia to the Olympic velodrome. The surprise comeback that produced a new personal best in the flying 200m. The founding of the JLD Cycling Academy and what it means to be the person who now develops the next generation of T&T's fastest cyclists. And what it feels like, in 2026, to still be winning. This is not a highlight reel. This is the real story. 🎙️ Red, White & Fast is produced by Dr. Peter Maharaj in association with Momentum Coaching. A portion of all series revenue supports athlete development for young T&T cyclists competing internationally. Subscribe so you don't miss Episodes. The speed. The sacrifice. The story.
