Rediscovering Latinidad
In this milestone 100th episode of Rediscovering Latinidad, we reflect on identity, history, and the stories that shape who we are, both collectively and personally. We are honored to be joined by acclaimed author and journalist John Phillip Santos, whose work explores memory, ancestry, and the evolving meaning of Latinidad across generations. We discuss his books Places Left Unfinished at the Time of Creation and The Farthest Home Is in an Empire of Fire, and how storytelling can preserve the histories that are often left undocumented. This conversation takes place at a powerful cultural moment:100 years after the publication of La Raza Cósmica by José Vasconcelos. Together, we explore how ideas of race, identity, and cultural synthesis have evolved over the past century, and what they mean for us today. In the final segment of the episode, we turn inward. The three cohosts reflect on the journey of reaching 100 episodes: what it has meant to build this space, the conversations that stayed with us, and the episodes that defined our growth along the way. This episode is about legacy. About the stories we inherit, the ones we tell, and the ones we’re still learning how to understand.
