Ep. 5: Dad Jazz with Ross Lahlum

Hi, and welcome! Reek of Podrefaction is an audio journey through Laura and Andrew's deep affection for extreme music in podcast form. A bonding exercise for us and a music discovery tool for you, the listener. Join us as we descend into the blackest abyss of extremity and pull out forgotten gems, rotten tape trade demos, long lost EPs, and the otherwise obscure brutality. Well, none of that is actually true for this episode. Recorded around Father's Day, this one features with Andrew's dad while he was in town visiting. No Laura, and no metal at all on this episode, just Japanese fusion, funk, nerding out about gear and lots and lots of jazz. If you're a True Death Metal Warrior of the Wastelands, this might not be for you, but I would encourage you to listen anyway. You might just like it! For any non-Chicagoans, this is a quick 2 minute feature on the mentioned Chicago legend of the Empire Carpet Man who Andrew's grandfather sang in a barber shop with: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqvLsAPUtmk Also, please forgive Andrew's mispronunciation of Lima, Ohio. He say it that way all the time and it always pisses off Ohioans. Sorry!

Ep. 4: Swedish Death Metal with Nick Donner (Mördrot, Despise)

We're a little late getting this one out, sorry about that. In this episode, we bring in HM-2 warrior Nick Donner from the local Dismember-worshipping Mordrot. Unfortunately since recording the episode, Mordrot has disbanded, but make sure to catch their last show August 23rd at Part Wolf with Andrew's band Coagulate! ALSO just a quick correction, at one point in the episode Andrew makes the claim that members of Crematory went on to be in Regurgitation; that is not true, what he meant was REGURGITATE. Different band. Enjoy!

Ep. 3: New Wave of Extreme Metal with Devon Bealke

This episode features hometown hero Devon Bealke. Devon isn't in any bands, but he's a good friend of ours who is far more up to date on new bands than us. New Wave of Extreme Metal isn't technically a real term, but the episode focuses on the onslaught of new metal that has been popping up all over the world for the past few years, with an emphasis on death metal, as always. Whatever the terminology is, we are definitely in an amazing era for new extreme music. This episode runs a little longer in terms of picks; we decided to do 5 each as opposed to the normal 3. All of the bands feature are new/ currently active and we agreed it was worth giving them whatever additional exposure we can generate as such. Particular shout-outs to friends of the show in Molder and Oxygen Destroyer!

This episode features Aaron Wolff (Aaron Lott on Metallum), who has played in basically every significant Twin Cities metal band since the early aughts. The 3 tracks in the beginning are Aaron's old projects which fade in and out as Aaron brings them up. They are, in order, Enshrined, Australis, and Pestifere. The song at the end is Rad Enhancer.
