In 1970, the Mexican Secretary of National Defense officially recognized him as a veterano (male veteran), not veterana, making him the first transgender soldier in Mexican military history. He received the Revolutionary Merit award (1973/1974) and was honored by three presidents. A rare transgender success story from over a century ago.
