Episode 60 Rowing Friends

Adrien and Kate discussed recent rowing activities and challenges, including weather-related delays affecting training and competitions. Episode 59 Rowing Friends with Shelby Kislowski

We are happy to welcome Shelby Kislowski to the podcast, the new head coach at Shenendehowa Rowing.  She shares her rowing journey from joining Burnt Hills Rowing in 7th grade through her D1 college rowing experience at Marist College, and now her return to coaching. Shelby shares her transition from a competitive high school rower to a college athlete, including the challenges of not completing a full four-year D1 rowing career and her subsequent return to coaching at both RPI and Shenendehowa Rowing. Shelby dives deep into her current coaching philosophy, plans to grow the Shenendehowa program's sweep rowing and modify programs, and her approach to coaching coxswains. She shares her upcoming racing schedule, including the Saratoga Invitational, and her strategies for recruiting and engaging with athletes, particularly highlighting the benefits of rowing as a sport that can be enjoyed beyond competitive goals.  We hope you enjoy the podcast with Shelby. Adrien and Kate discussed Adrien's recent experience coaching at a college rowing event in Ithaca, where the team had successful races against competitors including Williams, Ithaca, and U of R. Adrien shared both the advantages and challenges of coaching college athletes, including the early morning schedule requiring 4:45 AM wake-ups, the adjustment to 7 hours of sleep, and the unique dynamics of working with college students who are transitioning to adulthood. They also discussed current weather challenges preventing water practice at Adrien's team location due to high river flow and cold temperatures, while Kate shared that Hannah has officially committed to Washington College for next fall. Episode 56 Rowing Friends

Adrien called in from Clemson, South Carolina to report on the University of Rochester women's rowing team's training trip. She described the team's practices on the Seneca River, including workouts in various boat types from singles to eights, and noted how the athletes were managing their own meals and logistics.
