Host: Supreet Thiara Guest speakers: Dr. Rupinder Randhawa + Family Nurse Practitioner, Kirti Varma Topic: Postpartum Depression (PPD) Welcome to the Mind Matters podcast by Sahaita. Mind Matters is an emotional wellness initiative catered toward immigrant & diasporic communities with a cultural perspective. Each episode, we bring medical professionals to discuss topics related to mental health and wellness.  Today’s episode is about Postpartum Depression (PPD). PPD is a type of depression that can occur during pregnancy or after childbirth. It is thought to be caused by a combination of hormonal changes, physical and emotional stress, and the adjustment to becoming a new parent.  These hormonal changes that occur during and after pregnancy can have a significant effect on a woman's mental health and can cause a range of emotions, from mild sadness to severe depression. Today we have our experts, Dr. Rupinder Randhawa and Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Kirti Varma, who are going to give us more insight on this topic.  Sahaita Mind Matters is not intended to replace emergency services. If you or someone you know is experiencing a life-threatening emergency, please call 911 or 988 (Suicide and Crisis Lifeline).  There are many ways for you to get help! Visit sahaita.org/mindmatters for a list of local & national resources. You can also try betterhelp.com for virtual therapy sessions or southasiantherapists.org for culturally specific mental health care. Lastly, psychologytoday.com is a great option to choose from hundreds of therapists in your area, don’t forget to filter for your language!  *None of the above are sponsors of this podcast

Sahaita Mind Matters S1 E2: Neurodiversity

Host: Rhina Kaur Guest speaker: Jagmeet Kaur, Behavioral Analyst Topic: Neurodiversity Welcome to the Mind Matters podcast by Sahaita. Mind Matters is an emotional wellness initiative catered toward immigrant & diasporic communities with a cultural perspective. Each episode, we bring medical professionals to discuss topics related to mental health and wellness. This Autism Awareness month, our episode is about Neuodiversity, a term coined by Australian sociologist Judy Singer. It is described as the natural difference in the way our brains work. Thanks to Behavior Pivot Consulting, we've learned that it includes individuals whose cognitive functions vary from what is considered "neurotypical", i.e. Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Tourette's Syndrome, and more.
