Shara | Moral Compass
This season we'll examine the moral compass of Black cultures. Wait, but should you say “Black culture” or “Black cultures”? The answer is Black cultures — plural — because Black people are not a single tribe or monolithic group. Our identities are diverse, shaped by different histories and experiences. Yet, despite that individuality, many of us are still products of cultures rooted in racial constructs and connected by shared behavior. Black cultures are rich, layered, and complex — but in need of clear direction. The Moral Compass is a podcast hosted by me, Shara, exploring the historical and modern foundations that have shaped, guided, and sometimes challenged Black families and communities across generations. In Season 1, I’ll take listeners deep into the moral strengths and weaknesses within Black cultures — exploring both where the label "Black” comes from and where it can go. The very word “Black,” once used to degrade and classify the descendants of African-melanated people, has evolved into a badge we wear with pride. Yet it also remains tied to social constructs that shape — and sometimes distort our sense of direction. Together, we’ll examine how that direction was formed, how it’s been broken, and how it can be rebuilt in a world that often trades truth for convenience. This is more than a podcast; it’s a call to remember where we come from and what we’re capable of when we reclaim our moral compass.
