As adults, that wiring can trap us in people pleasing, overcommitting, and constantly overdrawing from our own energy. We flip the meaning of disappointment and treat it like data. If a person is disappointed, it often signals you set a boundary, chose yourself, or stopped playing the role they wrote for you. That’s not betrayal. That’s liberation.  You’ll get three practical steps for saying no without guilt: breathe through the fear instead of fixing it, stop overexplaining so your boundary doesn’t become a debate, and remember who you’re protecting when you choose yourself.
