Speak For Yourself
I'm back with a story about chaos, control, and what happens when a trip unravels in real time. In this episode of Speak for Yourself, I recap our family trip to Greece and the lesson that followed me through every wrong turn: when everything falls apart, go anyway. What was supposed to include island time on Aegina quickly turned when we discovered a last-minute E. coli water issue and had to cancel a non-refundable Airbnb. From there, things kept coming: travel delays, lost seat upgrades, an expensive taxi mistake, and the general emotional chaos of trying to hold it all together when the plan is clearly dead. But somewhere in the middle of the mess, we found the best time. Instead of making the trip mean loss, disappointment, or failure, I started asking a better question: What if this is adventure instead? That mindset changed everything. Athens became the unexpected gift. We found magic in places we never planned for: Airbnb Experiences like marble carving and jewelry making, surprise moments in the city, breathtaking time at the Acropolis and museum, and even an ancient mosaic uncovered in the road outside our hotel. I also talk about what I’m consuming right now, including Love Is Blind on Netflix and Donald Miller’s StoryBrand, and dig into the science of negativity bias, the stories we tell ourselves when things go sideways, and how meaning-making shapes the way we live. This one is about travel, yes. But really, it’s about your ability to choose.
