SPLC Sermon Podcast
On Holy Trinity Sunday, it's tempting to spend the whole sermon trying to explain how God can be three-in-one. Instead, Pastor Karl takes us into Jesus' nighttime conversation with Nicodemus in John 3:1-17 to show that the Trinity is the name of the God who acted to save you. From the Father's love, to the Son lifted up on the cross, to the Spirit's work in the waters of baptism, the whole Godhead is oriented toward bringing you into the kingdom. Along the way, Pastor Karl tackles why our natural human capacity (even at its religious best!) can't get us into heaven, why Martin Luther's go-to phrase was simply "I am baptized," and how the strange Old Testament episode of the bronze serpent in Numbers 21 points directly to Christ crucified. If you've ever felt uneasy about not being able to explain the Trinity, this sermon offers a different path: you don't have to pass a theology exam to benefit from what the triune God has done for you. ------------------------ At St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Gibbon, Minnesota, God has gathered a congregation where all ages are present, from newborns to grandparents.
