As we begin to navigate the work environment, we question if we are "climbing the ladder" for the right reasons. Join Nelle, Cece, and Kilo in discussion of what a Yappie is (aka a Young Asian Professional), their tendencies, its relation to capitalism, and the model minority myth.

After watching the 2021 film Moxie, Nelle, Kilo, and Cece have a discussion on teen representation in media and its impact on the youth. We share our thoughts on the film, the recent rise of mainstream production companies attempting to be “woke”, and how depictions of adolescence in film are often oversexualized and not accurate to most teen experiences.

CW: racial violence, gender violence. As Asian American women, our intention with this podcast is to share our perspectives on various topics that are often considered sensitive or taboo. With the rise in hate crimes against the Asian community we found it important to have a candid conversation about the violence directed towards our community. We discuss how anti-Asian sentiment is connected to the white supremacy ingrained in our society, the ways in which intersectionality is connected to the recent hate crimes, what meaningful solidarity can look like, and more.

Join our conversation with Jessica Chao, the co-founder of LingoHealth, a start-up dedicated to helping immigrant families navigate the healthcare system in the U.S.! We discuss the social determinants of health, our own experiences with healthcare, as well as learn from Jessica about solutions to bridging the health disparities faced by immigrant families through her knowledge of healthcare and impact investing.
