HOW CAN I IMPROVE MY READING SKILLS? For some students, reading in another language can be really hard. For Brazilian students who have some hard issues on reading in English, I suggest them to start by reading Comic Books instead of reading books, such as Novels. I know, some people don’t like reading even in his or her mother’s tongue, however, if it is needed to learn the language this option of reading small sentences in few dialogues inside balloons which are related to specific frames per page can provide a fresh start in order to improve the written comprehension. And for those who are more attracted by the idea of reading books, I suggest reading authors who are not born English speakers, like Stieg Larson for example, who wrote The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Why? Because when the MIllenium Trilogy was translated from Swedish into English, the words were easy to understand and so was the plot. Shakespeare’s plays couldn’t be read easily even for a high-skilled ESL student due to the rhymes or the way words were used to describe things or feelings. Maybe in prose writing, I wonder.
