Inside the Special Investigating Unit With Leonard Lekgetho.
South Africa is celebrated in other parts of the world for its anti-corruption efforts, even though South Africans feel ‘battered by stories of corruption, organised crime, greed, and the involvement of powerful people.’ Cheryl Frank, who runs the anti-corruption and accountability project at the Institute for Security Studies, is speaking with Leonard Lekgetho, the SIU Chief Operations Officer (at the time), about the investigative functions of the SIU.
Inside the Asset Forfeiture Unit with Advocate Ouma Rabaji-Rasethaba Part two.
The Asset Forfeiture Unit was established in 1999 as part of the National Prosecuting Authority. Its mandate was to seize assets derived from crime and corruption, using the Prevention of Organised Crime Act. It has been highly effective at recovering monies looted during the State Capture era. We managed to speak with her Adv. Ouma Rabaji-Rasethaba after her formal retirement from the position as head of the unit.
