The Balanced Nest
Our nervous systems were never built for this. And I mean that very literally. The human nervous system evolved to handle the concerns of a small community, a local environment, the people and situations directly in front of you. Not every tragedy happening simultaneously everywhere in the world, delivered to your pocket all hours of the day with no off switch. In this episode I talk about what actually happens to your nervous system when the threat never resolves... why "activated" becomes your baseline without you even noticing... and why a parent who's been consuming heavy content all day brings that energy into the room whether they say a word about it or not. I also get into how my kids and I actually navigate this in real life...why we deleted YouTube Kids when they were little (the creepiest stuff was absolutely targeted at children), why we play Roblox together and what conversations we have around it, how I've watched their behavior shift after too much screen time, and how giving them language for what they're feeling in their bodies after certain content has changed how they self-regulate. This isn't about locking everything down. It's about the difference between being informed and being overwhelmed. And right now, a lot of what we're calling "staying informed" is actually nervous system overload dressed up as awareness. Your assignment this week: audit your consumption. Notice the ratio of activation to settling in your day. Create one genuine tech-free window. And start having the conversation with your kids instead of letting them absorb it all passively. Come talk about this in the Balanced Nest community on Skool. Comment CONNECT and I'll send you the link. Your family is worth the work.
