Hurricane season is underway amid a series of preseason [https://www.noaa.gov/news-release/noaa-predicts-below-normal-2026-atlantic-hurricane-season] hurricane forecasts calling for a below average season this year. With the hurricane inhibitor El Nino already influencing weather patterns from the Pacific to the Atlantic, in addition to a steady stream of Saharan dust, we’re entering this year’s season with the least favorable environment for hurricane development we’ve had in many years. For the fifth consecutive year we’ve entered hurricane season without having had a tropical system develop ahead of it.
