Season 2: Family Style - Interview With Avis Phillips, My Grandmother!

Season 2: Family Style - Interview With Avis A. Phillips - Top 400 Business Women In The World  Season 2 of The Building Blonde is filled with family stories, family members in construction and vendors who are now like family. On Episode 1, Piper and her grandmother Avis Phillips talk all things construction, design, history, family and faith. Listen along to their stories. At 86 years old, Avis has had quite the adventure in the heavy civil construction world. Avis is a fabulous grandmother, Piper’s best friend and a devoted mother. Avis A. Phillips is the sole voting shareholder and Chairman of the Board for PIH. Phillips also serves as the Chairman of the Board of Phillips & Jordan (P&J), the largest of PIH’s three subsidiaries. She has spent a lifetime in the civil construction and environmental remediation industries. Through more than 50 years of business experience, she has learned and continues to treasure the values of hard work and character. Prior to her tenure at PIH, Phillips founded Avisco, Inc., a U.S. Department of Energy contractor that managed a wide range of projects encompassing a variety of construction services, including land clearing and grubbing, heavy earthwork, site development and environmental remediation. She was the only shareholder and the only Chairman and CEO in the nearly 30-year operating history of Avisco. It grew into one of the larger companies of its kind in the Southeastern United States. In 2015, Avisco combined its operations with P&J. In addition to her positions with Avisco, P&J, and PIH, Phillips has developed and operated shopping centers, commercial office buildings, art galleries, and retail clothing stores, while also serving as a Trustee or Board of Directors member for several businesses, charities, and educational institutions.
