The Context of White Supremacy welcomes David Fritz Fortune. A Morehouse College graduate, filmmaker, and proud resident of Atlanta, Mr. Fortune uses art to share refreshing portraits about black people resisting Racism in different ways. Gus T. immersed in this year’s Seattle International Film Festival and caught about three dozens films. Almost all of them focused explicitly on the global System of White Supremacy. There were so many films at the 51st SIFF, Gus nearly missed Mr. Fortune’s COLOR BOOK, which touchingly examines being a black father in Atlanta. After the sudden loss of a black mother and wife, Mr. Fortune captures the bond and grief shared between a black father, played by Will Catlett, and his son, portrayed by Jeremiah Daniels. COLOR BOOK showcases a black parent raising a child with disabilities and the daily impediments - like parenting while black and without a car - to living in metro Atlanta. We’ll ask Mr. Fortune why he wanted to showcase this black father/son relationship and if intentionally made a film without White characters. The C.O.W.S. welcomes Ms. Dannia Roxanne (https://www.just4thomasfree.info/) live from Milwaukee. While Gus was front row for the Sade C. Robinson murder trial, he noted a pink-clad black female with a wall full of Sade posters and paraphernalia. Ms. Roxanne was leading protests outside the Milwaukee County Court House during the trial and was one of the first people Gus interviewed once the guilty verdict was delivered. Ms. Roxanne and Sade’s mother Sheena Scarbrough both told Gus that there are so many black tragedies in Milwaukee, The C.O.W.S. should probably converse with Ms. Roxanne about the death of her son, Thomas Free. Reminiscent of the horrors in Harriet A. Washington’s Medical Apartheid, we’ll hear about the negligent care provided by Milwaukee’s Froedtert Hospital - which, importantly, is a teaching hospital. This facility serves mostly black people although it’s geographically tucked very close to the western borders of West Allis and Wauwatosa - which are both Racially Restricted Regions. This weekly broadcast examines current events from across the globe to learn what's happening in all areas of people activity. We cultivate Counter-Racist Media Literacy by scrutinizing journalists' word choices and using logic to deconstruct what is reported as "news." We’ll use these sessions to hone our use of terms as tools to reveal truth, neutralize Racists/White people. #ANTIBLACKNESS In Texas, historic flooding of the Guadalupe River left more than 100 residents deceased and catastrophic disaster in the Lone Star state. Sade Perkins, a black female and former member of the Houston Food Insecurity Board until January 2025, made the same observation about one aspect of the storm as Gus T. Kerrville's Camp Mystic, a decades running Christian program for White girls, is in a high flood risk area and suffered devastating losses. Perkins and Gus highlighted that not too many non-white girls are Camp Mystic alums and there are online photos of young White campers "cosplaying" as "native americans." Also, there were many reports in mainstream news outlets about the shrinking numbers of births around the world. Dr. Frances Cress Welsing reminds us people classified as White constitute less than 10% of the global population. The Katherine Massey Book Club @ The C.O.W.S. hosts the third study session on Gregg Olsen's If You Loving You Is Wrong, which investigates the scandalous, tragic arrangement between White Seattle schoolteacher Mary Kay Letourneau and her 12-year-old non-white student, Vili Fualaau. Gus T. was not a Seattle resident at the time of this criminal disgrace. When speaking with Neely Fuller Jr. many years ago about why it's incorrect for White people to engage in sexual activity with non-white people, he cited the Letourneau case. At the time, Gus shamelessly admitted being ignorant about this case. Fuller paused briefly before asking Gus to confirm that he was dialing from Seattle's 206 area code. Chatting all the way from Washington, D.C., Fuller knew all the tacky details of this case and how it corroborates his counter-racist code, which prohibits so-called interracial hanky panky until there's no more Racism. Last week we learned more about the bastard children of Mary Kay's father John Schmitz. His White mistress Carla Stuckle (or he) mutilated one of the illicit boy's genitals, but even this gruesome crime was given minimal punishment. The boy and his sister were eventually dumped in an orphanage after their mother died. Gus and other readers think Mary Kay's White Mother, Mary Schmitz, played a dominant role in trashing her husband's "love children." We also got more details about Mary Kay's parenting and teaching style. Apparently, she instituted "free-range" parenting before it was en vogue. Olsen says her White neighbors vividly remembered how often Mary Kay lost track of her young children - frequently near a construction site. We also learned that her school papers were so stained and crumpled that they looked like garbage. The Context of White Supremacy hosts the weekly summit on Neutralizing Workplace Racism 07/10/25. Hopefully, we all survived the 4th of July with all our fingers and toes and no added DUI arrests on our record. Gus T. is still mighty curious if any C.O.W.S. listeners have been interviewed by AI? This was first mentioned last week and speaks volumes to the monumental changes to the work landscape. It is imperative that non-white parents speak to their children often about the rapidly changing dynamics of getting and maintaining any sort of job. We also discussed a KCRW report where grocery enterprise Trader Joe's is accused of stealing the intellectual property of "ethnic"/non-white chefs. As opposed to partnering with non-white cooks at places like Brooklyn Delhi, Trader Joe's allegedly makes inferior copies of their culinary creations to sell at cheap prices to consumers.
