The Change along the RurUfer Cycle Path
The Rur has experienced a lot over the centuries and has some impressive stories to tell. At rest and activity stations along the RurUfer cycle path, witnesses of the time tell of the changes in nature and to the cultural landscapes. On your way along the RurUfer cycle path, for example, you will meet the dyer from the half-timbered town of Monschau. Hear fascinating stories of how colourful it was when cloth-makers dyed the Rur in all of the colours of the rainbow. The walls of Jülich citadel come back to life with the story of Duke Wilhelm. The magnificent fortress bears witness to wars and conquests that shaped the entire border area between Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands. Further downstream, you will meet an impressive engineer, architect and forester: The native beaver once left its mark on the river landscape in a natural way, but it got in the way of human plans. Even the Rur itself undergoes constant change. Where man once tamed it and put it in its place, today it is regaining its natural character and its old form through an ecological rethink and renaturation. Here in the podcast and of course at the 19 rest and activity stations on your tour on the RurUfer cycle path, the diverse stories of the river and the landscapes will be brought to life for you.
