Garden of Words, A Story of Human Connections
The Garden of words is a 2013 animation which tells the story of an unlikely friendship of two people who met on one rainy day in the Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden and that changes everything. It beautifully portrays how sometimes its human connections that save us from falling prey to the feeling of meaninglessness of life. Some bonds are deeper than we could comprehend in words and they cannot be labelled. In Garden of words, Shinkai's humanistic writing shines when it gets blended with the vivid animation and the whole movie feels like a visual poetry. Revisiting 'The Lunchbox'
Recently, I revisited the 2013 feature film 'The Lunchbox', and I realised how much there was that I had not noticed before. The many small details, the visual metaphors, and the deeper meaning of the exchanges between the two protagonists through letters. The more times you watch this movie, the more layers you unravel and that makes it a true masterpiece worthy of your indulgence. Performances by Kawalpreet Kaur and Irrfan Khan are truly a revelation and we can always use any excuse to remember the legend we lost as Irrfan Khan last year. The Lunchbox is just another feather in his cap, a beautiful one.

Kumbalangi Nights: How we heal by opening our heart
NOTE: Contains Spoilers. Kumbalangi Nights, released in 2019 is a Malayalam movie about a dysfunctional family of four brothers who share a love-hate relationship with each other. But above all, it is a movie that explores the brokenness of humans and how that brokenness can sometimes be healed by love, forgiveness and opening up the bottled-up emotions to someone. I would highly recommend this movie for its progressiveness and taking a decluttered look at mental health among men and addressing it with utmost empathy. You can find the movie streaming at Amazon Prime Video. If you like this episode, then please subscribe for more of such recommendations and analysis.
