After a fierce encounter, Hector’s life is taken and his body dishonoured, stirring grief and lamentation within the city as the sorrowful mourners contemplate the cruel toll of war and the fragile fate of his orphaned child.

In which Achilles pours forth his wrath upon the Trojans at the river Scamander, provoking both mortal strife and divine quarrels, as gods contend fiercely and the very elements rise against him. Yet even as the river god and heavenly host assail him, the mighty son of Peleus drives the routed Trojans within the walls of Ilius, their refuge from despair and death.

In which the mighty gods convene upon Olympus, choosing sides and weaving their influence throughout the clamorous battle between Achaeans and Trojans, whilst Achilles, fiery and resolute, seeks to confront his foes with unrelenting fury. The Iliad Book 18

In which the mighty Achæan Achilles mourns the loss of his dear comrade Patroclus, and his sorrow stirs the gods to intervene, leading his mother Thetis to seek wondrous armour wrought by Vulcan to restore his strength and glory. Meanwhile, the tide of battle swells around the ships, the Trojans debate their counsel, and the gleaming armour of Achilles is fashioned with exquisite artistry, adorned with scenes of life and strife that prophesy the fates yet to unfold.
