EP4_The Messiah in Psalm 2 (Part II)

Episode 4 – The Messiah from Psalm 2 to Genesis 3:15 In this episode, Brian Overholtzer continues the three-part series on the Messiah in Psalm 2 by tracing the messianic language from Psalm 2 back through 1 Samuel 2:10, Numbers 24:7–9, Genesis 49:8–12, and ultimately to Genesis 3:15. Listeners will explore how the exalted king of Hannah’s prayer in 1 Samuel 2 echoes Balaam’s prophecy in Numbers 24 which echoes Jacob’s blessing of Judah in Genesis 49. These Old Testament texts anticipate the coming of a royal deliverer—Jesus, the Lion of the tribe of Judah—who will rule the nations with divine authority. This episode concludes with a pastoral reminder: history centers on Jesus, and though the world may oppose God's people, believers share in Christ’s promised victory and kingdom. 🎙️ Episode 3 – Who Is the Anointed One in Psalm 2? (Part 1) A 3-Week Investigation into the Messiah in Psalm 2 and the Torah In this episode, we begin a powerful 3-week series tracing the identity of the “Anointed One” in Psalm 2:2. Is David speaking merely of himself, or is this a prophetic reference to the Messiah promised in Genesis 3:15? Join host Brian Overholtzer as he begins this biblical investigation by comparing Psalm 2 to 1 Samuel 2:10, uncovering an intentional intertextual connection through three key phrases: * “His Anointed” (מְשִׁיחוֹ) * “My King” (מַלְכִּי) * “The Ends of the Earth” (אַפְסֵי־אָרֶץ) This episode demonstrates how Psalm 2 builds on Hannah’s prophetic prayer to point forward to Yahweh’s Messiah, a king who will bring global justice and rule from Zion. You’ll hear how this text forms the foundation of a messianic thread that runs through the entire Old Testament—culminating in Jesus Christ. Coming up in the series: * Week 2: Connecting Psalm 2 and 1 Samuel 2:10 to Numbers 24:7–8 * Week 3: Tracing messianic language all the way back to Genesis 49 and Genesis 3:15 🔗 Subscribe and share as we trace the promise of the Messiah from the Psalms to the Pentateuch.
