They might have to start calling him "Nasdaq Jones" with his investment portfolio, but Nas is not only an iconic rapper but he is also an astute businessman. In this clip I broke down his early beginnings within venture capital in addition to some of the money plays behind some of his most popular investments. A little known fact is that he was pushed to started his own venture capital firm alongside his business partner Anthony Saleh by Ben Horowitz, a heavy hitter in silicon valley. Since starting QVP they have gone on to be a major force in Silicon Valley with over 100 investments in multiple tech startups, some that are household names today. If you look on the Forbes list of billionaires the top entrepreneurs come from the tech. it would make since that he would invest in tech because the rewards, if the investments pay off are massive. In 2013, Nas’ investment firm, QueensBridge Venture Partners, entered Coinbase’s Series B round, back when the cryptocurrency exchange platform was valued at around $143 million. On Wednesday, it’s estimated to reach a valuation of over $100 billion when it’s listed on the Nasdaq. In other words, Nas’ early investment in the largest cryptocurrency platform has payed off major dividends. His firm is reported to received 100 pitches a month to this day, the question now becomes is Esco well on his way to becoming hip hop’s next billionaire.
