Episode 1: The Neurodivergent Advantage In this episode, we talk about why this podcast needed to exist. The conversation starts with a simple but uncomfortable question: who decided what “normal” is — and why do so many people still get judged against it? We explore how ideas about behaviour, communication, and capability are shaped over time, and how those ideas quietly influence schools, workplaces, families, and leadership. Not in obvious ways — but in everyday moments where difference is misunderstood, misread, or quietly corrected. The episode looks at why having more information hasn’t reduced stigma, how fear often sits underneath judgement, and why neurodivergent people are so often expected to adjust themselves rather than environments being willing to shift. We also begin unpacking how difference shows up in real life — in communication style, processing, sensory needs, directness, and ways of thinking — and why this so often leads to friction, assumptions, and people feeling like they don’t quite belong, even when they’re capable. This first episode lays the groundwork for what follows: deeper conversations about masking, ableism, psychological safety, belonging, leadership, and how neurodivergence becomes an advantage when understanding actually changes how people think, lead, and interact.
