The Real Ms Kim
The Flow of the Day plays an important part in the success of students in the Kindergarten Program. In this episode I talk about what the flow of the day is, how to create one, and how it benefits the Tiny Humans in your class. Here are some websites that I have found very helpful when learning about and creating the Flow of the Day: TransformEd [http://myclassroomtransformation.blogspot.com/2013/08/open-house-2013-resources.html] The Curious Kindergarten [https://thecuriouskindergarten.blog/2014/04/29/planning-for-a-full-day-of-inquiry-based-learning/#comments] Considerations for Program Planning [https://www.ontario.ca/document/kindergarten-program-2016/considerations-program-planning#section-2] EduGAINS [http://www.edugains.ca/newsite/Kindergarten/primaryresources/flowoftheday.html] Here are some questions that I have found helpful to think about when creating your Flow of the Day: * How can we reduce the number of transitions in the day? * What can we do to enable children to revisit, over time, inquiries or projects in which they are deeply engaged, in order to extend the learning? * How can we make the best use of two educators to maximize the time allowed in our schedule for children to be engaged in learning? * What opportunities does a child have, in the course of the day, to retire to a space for quiet and rest? Does the flow of our day allow for children to rest when they feel tired? * What challenges that have an impact on the flow of the day could we discuss with the principal? * How long are the arrival and departure windows?
