Descripción

As my husband and I get a bit older, and our parents do as well, we have found ourselves increasingly interested in preserving their stories and life experiences. We come from a family of successful entrepreneurs, so the lessons behind those journeys are especially meaningful to us. I was honored to sit down with my father-in-law, John Holmes, on The San Diego Edit podcast to capture his remarkable path, from his childhood in the UK to his many business ventures, and finally to retirement after building, growing, and selling pubs. It is a conversation filled with insight, history, and hard-earned wisdom.

Love, legacy, and lessons with Val Holmes

As my husband and I have gotten older, something unexpected has happened—we’ve become deeply curious about our parents’ stories. How they grew up, how they built lasting marriages, how they created successful businesses, and how they continue to enjoy life today. On the latest episode of The San Diego Edit, I had the joy of sitting down with my mother-in-law, Valerie Holmes. Val shares her childhood growing up in post-war England, memories of a simpler time, and what it was like meeting my father-in-law when she was just 16 years old. This year, they are preparing to celebrate an incredible milestone: 60 years of marriage. We talk about love, resilience, building a successful business, holding on to what you earn, and the quiet wisdom that comes from a life well lived. It’s a conversation about legacy, perspective, and the stories we don’t ask often enough, but should.
