Birthday: Mark Wahlberg (born 1971) — Actor and producer (The Departed, Ted, Boogie Nights). This Day in History: 968 — Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated in Los Angeles moments after winning the California Democratic primary. ---- Free Ride (Fox News) Knoebels Amusement Resort opened July 4, 1926, celebrates its centennial this year. In an era of pricey theme parks and gated admission, one Pennsylvania amusement park is still letting guests in for free. Knoebels opened its doors on July 4, 1926 — and will celebrate its 100th anniversary this year, as the nation celebrates America's semiquincentennial. Park owner Brian Knoebel, 52, recently told PA Local he had to "had to pinky-swear" to never change the free-admission model. "It's who we are," he said. "It’s that traditional park." ----- Getting Screwed (Not the Bee 8/25 and AP News 6/26) U.S. reports first human-infected screwworm case. It was a Guatemalan migrant. The New World screwworm fly has reached south Texas, the U.S. Department of Agriculture confirmed Wednesday, the first time in decades that the parasite with flesh-eating larvae has threatened the nation’s cattle industry and only the third time it’s appeared in the U.S. in that time. Screwworms are nasty little buggers. The screwworm fly uses mammalian hosts to facilitate its disgusting lifestyle; females "lay 250 - 500 eggs in the exposed flesh of warm-blooded animals. The larvae hatch and burrow into the surrounding tissue as they feed." ----- Why? Because! That’s Why… (Fox 2 News) Why it's taking so long to count California primary votes? State election officials are expected to learn sometime on Thursday exactly how many votes still need to be counted in the California primary election, as well as how long the process could take. According to Ballot Tracker, approximately 6.5 million ballots have been counted so far out of 23 million registered voters in California. Because it could take several days or even weeks to finish counting all the remaining votes, the vote totals in the race for California governor remain relatively unchanged. ---- SHOW CREDITS: Thank you to my co-host, Ken Madden of MaddK Studio [https://the-weatherd-view.captivate.fm/maddk-studio] Audio credits and Producer Jason Radosevich Horrible Designs [https://the-weatherd-view.captivate.fm/horrible-designs] Cast: Kate the Duchess of NJ and John Jamingo of theBoomer Bunker [https://the-weatherd-view.captivate.fm/boomer-bunker] Aaron of I had to Say it [https://the-weatherd-view.captivate.fm/i-had-to-say-it] Boomer Bob of the Boomer Bob Show [https://the-weatherd-view.captivate.fm/boomer-bob] Lorenzo from Misanthrope Radio 2.0 [https://the-weatherd-view.captivate.fm/misanthrope-radio-2-0] Cody the Beard as the Last Word.
