Emotion vs. Logic

In this episode, I unpack the tension between emotion and logic through both personal reflection and a deeper theological lens. What started as a simple question about where I fall on that spectrum quickly turned into a realization that I lean heavily on logic, and often struggle to express emotion the way I think I should. But this conversation goes beyond just my experience. I explore what it really means to be emotional or logical, looking at Jesus as both fully human and fully God, and what that reveals about the balance between the two. I also dive into God’s attributes: His knowledge, wisdom, and truth; and how all of it ultimately points back to love. Through honest moments and real-life examples, this episode challenges the idea that it’s emotion versus logic. Instead, it’s about understanding how the two work together, and what that says about who we are as humans.

The Simple Life

In this episode of Thoughts I’m Still Having, I’m unpacking something I can’t seem to shake: the idea of “the simple life.” After coming back from spring break and feeling that reset, I started thinking about why so many of us say we want a simpler life… especially when, by definition, life has never been easier. I talk through how technology has shaped the way we live. From managing our time to how we communicate, and question why, even with all that convenience, we still find ourselves longing for something else. Is it really about simplicity, or are we chasing something deeper? While looking for an answer to this question, I dive into a concept from C.S. Lewis called “chronological snobbery,” and how it’s shaped the way our society tends to view the past. With a little help from Disney’s “The Croods,” I explore what it means to assume people before us were less capable, and why that might not be true at all. This episode is a mix of curiosity, overthinking, and trying to make sense of what “simple” really means.

Perspective

In this episode of Thoughts I’m Still Having, I dive into the idea of perspective and how it shapes the way we see the world. Perspective can mean many things; from the physical way we look at something to the deeper beliefs and viewpoints that influence how we interpret our experiences. I explore how our perspectives are formed through social learning, relationships, and the influence of people around us, as well as how they can shift over time through life events, conversations, or even a single thought-provoking moment. I also talk about the power perspective holds in our everyday lives. The lens through which we view situations affects our emotions, decisions, and the way we interact with others. When our perspective is challenged, we’re faced with a choice: remain closed off or lean into curiosity and understanding. Join me as I reflect on why perspective matters, how it develops, and why questioning and exploring different viewpoints can lead to deeper understanding.

Hi, I’m Olivia Britton! A college student majoring in Mass Communication with a concentration in Journalism and Digital Media. but more importantly to you, I’m a chronic overthinker. I grew up in a fairly small town in Alabama, where thinking outside the box often meant standing outside of it… and not in a good way. As I’ve matured, I started asking myself a question thatchanged everything: Why do I believe what I believe? That question led me down a path of challenging not only my own beliefs, but also the idea that life comes with a fixed definition. Sometimes things are just things, But sometimes there’s a deeper meaning... you just have to be willing to look for it. That’s what led me to start Thoughts I’m Still Having. It’s a space where I take the ideas that linger in my mind and connect them to theory, culture, psychology, faith, or sometimes just lived experience. It’s where curiosity meets analysis.
