episode The Shade! Colorism. artwork

The Shade! Colorism.

Colorism has been a term used in the black and brown communities as a form of discrimination between lighter/ darker skin tones. Colorism was introduced into the black community from as far back as slavery. The slave owners discriminated against darker slaves, who were forced to work outside and do hard labor vs the lighter slaves who were chosen to work in the homes. Unfortunately, we still see colorism affecting our black, brown, Hispanic, and other minority groups. Our two special guests, Mya Matos and Prishna Jimenez-Cassan, share their experiences with colorism. Disclaimer: Thoughts and opinions spoken on this topic are those of each individual and their experiences. We respect all perspectives and experiences shared, and we are not here to judge or determine anyone’s truth. Thank you to our guests for sharing your experiences and being so transparent. Also, we apologize for mic issues ( it’s technology), but we continued to push through to have this much needed conversation.
