Descripción

A Mother’s Intuition Through The Unknown When Camille Fortunato’s son Anthony was diagnosed with Williams syndrome at just two years old, her world changed forever. What began as a mother’s quiet feeling that something wasn’t right became a journey through complex medical challenges and frightening cardiac episodes. Camille shares the moment she realized she could physically feel Anthony’s heart racing at a dangerous speed, which led her to call 911 and uncover severe tachycardia. Turning Grief Into Purpose And Advocacy As Camille learned more about the cardiovascular risks tied to Williams syndrome, including sudden cardiac arrest and anesthesia complications, she discovered how little research and guidance existed for families. Rather than staying in fear, she transformed that pain into action by launching the Anthony Filippozzo Grant for Williams Syndrome Research and Advancement (AGF), helping fund critical research. She also shares how her love expanded from one child to a whole community of families. Hope, Healing, And The Future Camille also discusses research breakthroughs offering hope, including studies focused on cardiovascular disease and arrhythmias in Williams syndrome. This conversation is a powerful reminder that love in action can change lives. 66 - Marie DeJournette on Purpose, Perseverance and Finding Your Calling

Finding Purpose On The Mountain What began as a single climb up Mount Shasta in 2007 became a life-changing path for Marie DeJournette. In this heartfelt conversation, Marie shares how a simple invitation to join Climb Against The Odds opened the door to a deeper connection with Breast Cancer Prevention Partners and a mission that would shape the next chapter of her life. From her early days as a climber to eventually leading outdoor fundraising events around the world, Marie reflects on the powerful intersection of adventure, advocacy, and purpose. The Transformative Power Of Doing Hard Things Over the years, Marie has witnessed hundreds of people step far beyond what they believed was possible. In this episode, she shares inspiring stories of climbers who arrived as complete beginners, breast cancer survivors who defied the odds and individuals who discovered strength they never knew they had. Through these powerful experiences, Marie reflects on the courage, vulnerability and community that emerge when people come together around a shared mission. Her stories are a beautiful reminder that transformation often begins long before we reach the summit. Closing One Chapter, Trusting The Next As Marie prepares for her final Climb Against The Odds and looks ahead to walking the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route through Spain, she reflects on the lessons she's gathered from a lifetime of adventure, advocacy, and service. She shares how this next journey feels especially meaningful, as she will carry her mother’s ashes with her along the trail, honoring her presence every step of the way before scattering the last of them near her grandmother’s hometown. As one chapter comes to a close and another begins, Marie reminds us that the most meaningful journeys are often the ones that connect us more deeply to ourselves, our loved ones and the path unfolding ahead. 65 - BONUS EPISODE Building a More Inclusive World Through Barbering with Henry Tribes

Creating Calm In Spaces That Once Felt Overwhelming In this deeply moving conversation, Joanne sits down with barber, educator and inventor Henry Tribes to explore how one simple idea became a powerful act of care for neurodivergent children and their families. What began with a weighted blanket at home slowly evolved into The Weighted Cape, a sensory-informed innovation designed to bring calm, grounding and emotional safety into the haircut experience. Henry shares how his own journey through fatherhood softened his understanding of patience, presence and what it truly means to make someone feel safe in their body. More Than A Haircut, A Sense Of Belonging As Henry began working with neurodivergent children, everything about the haircut experience shifted for him. No longer focused solely on the final result, he focused above all else on care, trust, regulation and emotional safety. Through compassion, deep listening and sensory-safe environments, Henry explains how even something as everyday as a haircut can become deeply healing, not only for the child sitting in the chair, but for the parents carrying years of stress, fear and exhaustion. This conversation beautifully reminds us that true inclusion is not about fixing people; it’s about creating spaces where they can fully belong exactly as they are. Following The Quiet Inner Nudges Toward Purpose Henry also opens up about leaving behind the expectations of corporate success to follow a path that felt far more aligned with his heart and purpose. From teaching sensory-inclusive haircut techniques through the Sensory Society to building Trimmies, a sensory oasis intentionally designed for neurodivergent families, his work is rooted in the belief that healing often begins with the smallest acts of kindness and human connection. This episode is a powerful reminder that when we slow down, lead with compassion and trust those quiet inner nudges, we create ripple effects far bigger than we could ever imagine. 64 - Understanding Williams Syndrome: Beauty, Humanity & Connection

Holding Space For The Williams Syndrome Journey In honor of Williams Syndrome Awareness Month, Joanne sits down with Jessica Connor, Dr. Jocelyn Krebs and Dr. Kristin Kouvel for a conversation rooted in compassion, advocacy, and the deeply human experience of raising and supporting individuals with Williams syndrome. Together, they explore the many layers of the diagnosis, from medical complexity and anxiety to the beauty, individuality and emotional depth that lives inside this extraordinary community. This episode gently reminds us that no two journeys ever unfold the same way and that true understanding begins when we move beyond labels and really see the person standing in front of us. The Quiet Knowing Mothers Carry Jessica and Dr. Jocelyn Krebs both reflect on the early moments of motherhood when something inside quietly whispered that their children needed deeper answers. Dr. Jocelyn Krebs shares the surreal experience of being both a genetic researcher studying Williams syndrome and later becoming the mother of a son with the condition herself. Jessica opens up about the long road toward her daughter Ava’s diagnosis and the emotional weight of hearing the words “Williams syndrome” for the very first time. Their stories speak so beautifully to the intuition mothers carry and how inner sense continues to guide even when the path feels uncertain. Finding Hope Through Connection And Care The conversation also moves into Ava’s recent scoliosis journey and the specialized care that surrounded her spinal fusion surgery. Dr. Kristin Kouvel compassionately explains the connective tissue differences tied to Williams syndrome and why scoliosis can become part of the picture for some families. What unfolds throughout this discussion is something deeper than medicine alone. It’s the power of collaboration, advocacy, research and human connection working together in service of a child’s wellbeing. This episode is ultimately a reminder that healing is never just clinical; it’s emotional, communal and rooted in the people willing to walk beside us through it all. 63 - Living Every Day Like It Matters with Callie Truelove | Faith & Williams Syndrome

A Life Rooted In Love And Faith In this deeply heart-opening conversation, Joanne and Morgan are joined by Tabitha Truelove and her daughter Callie for a beautiful discussion about faith, family, resilience and living fully in the present moment. Tabitha shares the story of meeting her husband Keith at just 12 years old, the unwavering faith that carried their family through life’s hardest moments and the emotional journey of learning that Callie was born with Williams syndrome and a life-threatening heart condition. Faced with devastating medical predictions, their family chose to live every single day with gratitude, love, and hope. Living Life Fully Against The Odds Callie opens up about her childhood memories, her deep love for her grandparents and what it was like growing up with Williams syndrome while facing significant health challenges. With honesty, humor, and incredible wisdom, she shares what she wishes people understood about disability: individuals with Williams syndrome are capable of building meaningful lives, relationships, careers and dreams, even if the path looks a little different. From her experience on Love on the Spectrum to spreading kindness everywhere she goes, Callie’s joy and compassion radiate throughout the conversation. Creating A Legacy Of True Love Inspired by Callie’s desire to help others, the family created the True Love Foundation to support individuals with Williams syndrome and their families through resources, experiences, connection and encouragement. Together, they reflect on the healing power of community, staying true to yourself, and why love, especially in difficult moments, has the ability to transform lives. This episode is a beautiful reminder to slow down, cherish the people around you and truly live each moment like it matters.
