Practicing Kindness

Why should we practice kindness? In this podcast, we put the essentials of our work at the Tu Es Uma Joia solidarity project in total light, by discussing the importance of practicing kindness, accompanied by two touching tales. Over time, with a dose of kindness, negative emotions can lose power over the person.

Being Emotionally Available

To be emotionally available is to integrate mindfulness, intent, listening and authenticity into our interactions with others. The subject of being emotionally available, first seemed like a cliché; but, then why don’t we talk about it more often? Why emotions are not topics of discussion in families, small or bigger circles? It is truly valuable to understand it for ourselves, as well as practice it for others. We should approach always with compassion, caring and positiveness because our language shapes our emotions.

Empathy and how we started...

Tu És Uma Jóia, or You Are A Gem in English, is a project created in the city of Porto, Portugal, registered as a non-profit charity institution. Our organization wants to help individuals who are in a situation of emotional vulnerability and physical fragility. The idea of solidarity arose from the urgency of solving the adversities evidenced in the surrounding society. None of us can ignore the drama of human frailty in sickness, loneliness and uprootedness. So solidarity can help in these difficult times. Let's give an imaginary hug without charges, without judgments, just for the pleasure of giving. In spite of the solidarity philosophy of many institutions and of society in general, the lack of affection became evident. Emotions are the essence of the person - they are Jóia!
