Digital Seals for Master Plumbers & HVACR Contractors Adopted!

A recent policy update from the New Jersey licensing boards for plumbing and HVACR contractors officially authorizes the use of digital signatures and seals on construction permit documents. Starting May 18, 2026, local municipalities are legally required to accept these electronic submissions, provided they meet specific security standards established by the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

Electronic Permit Submissions

In this episode, we highlight some of the many details surrounding electronic permit submissions, which became effective on November 18, 2024. At this point in time, all UCC functions can be performed digitally and electronically. There are exceptions to electronic submittals; Any licensed contractor that has a pressure seal, cannot at this time submit electronically and must continue with paper submissions until their respective board allows. These include licensed master plumbers, licensed electricians, and licensed heating ventilation and air conditioner contractors.
