This conversation uncovers the real origin: it’s not rooted in Scripture or early faith, but in Roman Catholic tradition, which spread globally through colonisation, including into ethnic households. What started as a church-imposed practice of abstaining from meat on Fridays, with fish as a substitute, became normalised across many cultures. But here’s the key question: is it biblical? Scripture never commands believers to eat fish or avoid meat on Good Friday, and fish is still flesh despite how it’s often categorised. We also address whether this practice is pagant, but it can become an empty religious habit when followed without understanding. If you’re seeking truth rooted in Scripture rather than tradition, this conversation is for you.    Support the show [https://ko-fi.com/unfilteredchristianpodcast] 🎙️ Enjoying the podcast? EP 45 - Where Are The Men In Church?

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2374030/fan_mail/new] When you look around church and mostly see women, it raises a bigger question than dating: what happened to the men, and what does church feel like from their side? We get real about why the gender gap shows up so strongly in many UK churches, from the way boys and girls are raised around faith to the subtle messages churches send about who belongs and who leads. We dig into the hard stuff people avoid saying out loud. Some men experience church as a feminine space with few places to be honest, build friendships, or process life without judgment. Others get approached mainly for labour, lifting, fixing, setting up, playing keys, and then left unseen when they need support. We also talk about men’s mental health, church wounds, and the pressure to “be strong” while suffering in silence. If church is meant to be a hospital, who is making sure men can actually be heard there? Then we move to solutions that are practical, not performative: ask men what they need, listen without comparison, and create real brotherhood through mentoring, sports, activities, and consistent community. We also share why building welcoming spaces matters for everyone, including Christian singles who want a safe environment that is not loaded with pressure but still keeps God at the centre. If you care about stronger families, healthier discipleship, and a more balanced church culture, this conversation is for you. Ep 44 - Faith After A Stroke (In Memory of Devon)

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2374030/fan_mail/new] Dee’s story starts with a request: record the conversation, then hold it until later. We did and now we’re sharing it with heavy hearts, because Dee has since passed away. What you’re about to hear is a moving testimony about stroke survival, faith under pressure, and the kind of resilience you don’t learn until life forces you to. Please note there’s a trigger warning for health trauma and hospital experiences.  We talk through Dee’s background as an island man who grew up with little, watched his mum carry the weight, and learned how to become a man without a steady father figure. He also opens up about racism in the UK, including violent incidents that left him fighting for safety and dignity. That stress carries into adulthood, where burnout, poor sleep, and intense work pressure collide with a season of trying to return to God and rebuild his spiritual life.  Then the health crisis hits. Dee describes alarming symptoms, repeated GP visits, being dismissed and misdiagnosed, and the moment everything spirals into a stroke, coma, and emergency brain surgeries with a 5% survival chance. We speak honestly about what recovery looks like after a stroke: fear, dependence, relearning speech and movement, emotional shifts, and the grief of losing the future you thought you had. Through it all, Dee points to prayer, family support, and surrendering control as the anchors that keep him standing.  If Dee’s testimony helps you, share it with someone who needs hope, subscribe for more conversations like this, and leave a review so more listeners can find the Unfiltered Christian podcast. Ep 42 - Should Christians Eat Halal?

Send us Fan Mail [https://www.buzzsprout.com/2374030/fan_mail/new] We wrestle with a simple question that turns out to be spiritual: should followers of Jesus eat halal meat when a prayer is invoked over it during slaughter. We read key Bible texts about food offered to idols, talk honestly about conviction, and share practical ways to respond without fear or judgement.
