But, of course, travel is at the heart of Sennowe. Indeed, its builder may have severed his tie with the business that made him rich, yet he preserved its memory in stone forever at Sennowe. The first Architectural Editor of Country Life magazine, Henry Avray Tipping (1855 - 1933), made his home here in the 1920s. The house was designed by Chepstow architect Eric Francis Carwardine Francis (1887 - 1976). Tipping made the garden, which has been meticulously restored over the last quarter of a century by garden history author Helena Gerrish.
