Join Pastor John Owens from our Williamsburg Campus for an impactful message in our 1 Peter series. In a society that often watches, reviles, and questions the motives of believers, how should we respond? Drawing from 1 Peter 3:8–17, this sermon explores how we can live as models of a "living hope"—a hope that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading. The message outlines three powerful ways to model Christ to a watching world: - Walking in Love: We explore the five adjectives that should describe the church: unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind. Pastor John challenges us to extend this love not just to our church family, but to our enemies—blessing those who slander us and seeking peace in the midst of conflict. - Surrendering to His Lordship: True courage comes from honoring Christ as holy in our hearts. When Jesus is on the throne of our lives, we no longer have to fear the "conspiracies" or threats of the world. This surrender gives us the strength to share our hope boldly yet gently, winning hearts rather than just winning arguments. - Keeping a Clear Conscience: Like a ship that must seal its watertight doors to stay afloat, we must work to keep our hearts free from the "undergrowth" of sin. We learn the importance of hating what is evil and loving what is good, ensuring our lives match our witness so that those who revile us are put to shame by our good behavior. The message concludes with a reminder that it is better to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. By looking to the cross and following the example of the Suffering Servant, we can become world-changers who offer a living hope to everyone we meet.
