Descripción

This time Julia chose a real cinematic masterpiece, Metropolis by Fritz Lang. For some of us it was a first watch and for some of us has seen it several times. This of course made for an interesting discussion, and as some may know it is Thomas' favourite movie, so of course he could also provide with some extra insight behind this monumental film.If you are listening to the podcast version, the full version can be found here: https://youtu.be/L4RZpYHwwuM [https://youtu.be/L4RZpYHwwuM]

Olympia - a discussion about the controversial film by Leni Riefenstahl

This is the audio version of the episode. For video version go here: Olympia video version [https://youtu.be/s7v6seYuRz8] April 6th. 2026 is 130 years since the first Olympic Games. 40 years after the first games this sport event moved to Germany and became the most famous - or infamous - in the history of The Olympics. Not only was this to be a big propaganda event for the horrible oppressive ideology and regime that few years later would set the world on fire, but it was also captured on film by Leni Riefenstahl, an enigmatic figure that on one hand was a visionary artist but on the other hand helped promote the nazi regime. This made for quite an interesting discussion about sports and fascism, the banality of evil, art and politics and much more.
