Your Pal Al
Al flies solo this episode, and his brain is running at full speed. Starting with a simple conversation about whether friends can disagree on politics without destroying the friendship, Al spirals — in the best way — through patriotism, the Pledge of Allegiance, the State of the Union, people eating shrimp during the national anthem at a Florida Panthers game, and the college students who gave their opinions on a presidential address the day before it happened. Midway through, he gets a surprise call-in from Richard Marks of the Mixed Nuts Nation podcast, who opens with a joke so bad his own wife told him not to use it. They manage to find some common ground on civility, the greatest generation, and what gets lost when trust stops passing between generations. Al also tackles honesty, lies, broken hearts, the superpower he actually wants (hint: it's not flying), and the story of a little girl who prayed for a bicycle and got the most unexpectedly wise answer of all time. And yes — he calls his mom. Fish, okra, salad, and ice cream. Sunday plans for bagels and lox. The usual. The irreplaceable. More questions than answers, more heart than he'll admit.
