Just when you thought pure guitar rock music was dead, cleopatrick entered the chat. On June 4, 2021, Canadian Rock band cleopatrick [http://cleopatrick.com/] released their debut album “BUMMER [https://orcd.co/bummer]“. For those of you that aren’t familiar with them, cleopatrick are childhood friends Ian Fraser and Luke Gruntz. They grew up in Cobourg, Ontario and have been friends since age 4. They began getting interested in music around age 8 when they first listened to AC/DC. Later in their teens, they began recording their own music. This episode focuses on the importance of the “New Rock Mafia [https://www.newrockmafia-fam.de/442412060]“. As described on cleopatrick’s website [http://cleopatrick.com/], “the new rock mafia is a collective centered around the development, distribution, and defense of real guitar music. it was created as a means to cultivate a new era culture around young artists and listeners that share common values of honesty, inclusivity, and escapism. the new rock mafia exists out of necessity. it’s a sword and shield; destined to establish and protect a new scene for a new generation of guitar bands.” If you like what you hear, check out their other releases “the boys [https://cleopatrick.bandcamp.com/album/the-boys]” and “14 [https://cleopatrick.bandcamp.com/album/14]“. This week, join us as we listen to the 2020 release from Lansing, Michigan's own Hot Mulligan [https://www.hotmulliganband.com/]. Released on No Sleep Records [https://nosleeprecords.com/], their sophomore album is titled you'll be fine [https://hotmulligan.bandcamp.com/album/youll-be-fine]. In 2015, Hot Mulligan released two EPs titled Fenton and Honest & Cunning via Michigan-based label Save Your Generation Records. After signing to No Sleep Records [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_Sleep_Records] in 2017, Hot Mulligan re-released an EP titled Opportunities (original release on Save Your Generation). In 2018, Hot Mulligan released their debut full-length album titled Pilot on No Sleep Records. In 2020, they released their second album, you'll be fine, also on No Sleep. Fronted by lead singer Nathan "Tades" Sanville, Hot Mulligan [https://nosleeprecords.com/collections/hot-mulligan] falls into the emo/math rock camp. When asked about their cryptic song titles, Tades said "Almost none of the titles are significant in any way to the track. They’re just dumb inside jokes that we think make good song titles."
