00:01.75 Priscilla Horton Welcome everyone. I'm so glad you're joining me again for another episode of the Journey Tribe podcast. um Today's episode is inspired by a book that I recently read and it completely shifted the way that I view my mind and my relationships with my thoughts. 00:22.89 Priscilla Horton You all know I'm huge into mindset, anything that has to do with the brain and rewiring it, reframing it. All the things. and this book was such an easy read, very quick, and it is called Don't Believe Everything That You Think by Joseph Nguyen. He pronounces it Nguyen and it's N-G-U-Y-E-N. 00:54.28 Priscilla Horton If you've ever felt trapped by your overthinking or weighted down by a constant stream of thoughts, This episode is for you. i think we've all kind of been there and one point of our life or another. 01:11.12 Priscilla Horton Maybe you're you're there right now and this may help you. No matter what, I encourage you to go and either listen to the book or read it yourself. 01:25.98 Priscilla Horton He really does do a very good job writing. breaking things down and helping you to understand the difference between your thoughts and thinking. So we're going to dive into a pretty powerful distinction that the author makes. 01:51.85 Priscilla Horton So I'm going go over a little bit about the differences that he shares between thoughts and thinking. And we're going to explore how understanding this can bring more clarity and peace into your own life as it did mine. 02:15.69 Priscilla Horton The book's core idea is 02:19.91 Priscilla Horton pretty simple when you think about it, but so profound. Most of our suffering comes not from our circumstances, but from our thoughts. 02:33.09 Priscilla Horton And not just our thoughts, our thoughts about them. So the author, Joseph Wynn, really invites us to question the validity of our thoughts and detach from overthinking. 02:52.96 Priscilla Horton One of the quotes that he shares in the book is that you are not your thoughts, but the awareness behind them. Isn't that crazy? Like if we think about our thoughts, basically they're like these little clouds and we can just let them float by or we can focus all of our attention our awareness on the one cloud that's there. 03:19.39 Priscilla Horton There can be these white clouds everywhere, but we see the one dark cloud and we want to hone in on it. We want to we want to focus on it. 03:33.06 Priscilla Horton So let's talk a little bit about the difference between the thoughts and thinking. And I actually had to read through this a couple times because it was so fascinating when he was sharing it that a thought is just one single mental event. 03:53.28 Priscilla Horton It's spontaneous and it's neutral nature. It doesn't really come with any feelings, no nothing, right? But thinking is the active process of attaching your meaning, your stories, and your emotions to that thought. 04:11.58 Priscilla Horton So there's a whole slew of things that create this thinking, right? This is when it typically becomes a problem in our life because we're attaching our value. We're attaching the meaning. 04:28.56 Priscilla Horton We're attaching a belief to it, a story, intense emotions. But the thought itself is just neutral. 04:41.85 Priscilla Horton It's one single mental event that happens. 04:51.67 Priscilla Horton I don't know. Somebody mentioned years ago, our thoughts are kind of like those clouds just like passing by and stuff. And so I can't ever think of it differently now. I'm like, i see the image as these thoughts being these, these clouds and you know, they come and they go and they, they are there and then they're not. 05:13.88 Priscilla Horton But sometimes we can keep them around much longer by focusing all our attention on it. 05:24.34 Priscilla Horton So 05:35.27 Priscilla Horton so let's just keep that that visual of the thoughts being like a cloud. Because those clouds are going pass along in the sky. 05:48.16 Priscilla Horton they They rise naturally, right? Without effort. 05:55.75 Priscilla Horton Thinking is when we grab onto that cloud and we start spinning stories about it. 06:08.51 Priscilla Horton Like maybe a thought could be, have a lot to do today. But then thinking is, I'll never finish it all. I'm so behind. 06:19.32 Priscilla Horton Why can't I be more productive? And let's just keep going on and on and on and on and on. And our thinking won't stop until we choose to stop it. 06:38.35 Priscilla Horton So the author, Joseph, when he teaches that suffering doesn't come from the thought itself, which kind of blew my mind actually. 06:51.08 Priscilla Horton But it actually comes from ah habit of overthinking and believing the stories that we create about it. 07:07.77 Priscilla Horton I know that my thinking over the years has caused a lot of suffering in my own life. It has caused suffering in my relationships. 07:20.34 Priscilla Horton When i i just kind of lasso one of those, those thoughts and I start creating stories about it in my head. 07:31.74 Priscilla Horton And i did this a lot with, you know, my own sense of belonging and relationships with people. I did this in my own marriage, 07:43.26 Priscilla Horton And when you allow yourself, like I did, to create these stories over and over and over again and keep building on them, 08:03.98 Priscilla Horton it just begins to spiral out of control. 08:10.58 Priscilla Horton because the actual thought itself had no deeper meaning than the thought itself, right? But we put the depth in it, because we we create all of the emotions that come with that. And so you may be able to think of, you know, scenarios that you've played out in your head. 08:29.40 Priscilla Horton And it just continues to spiral over and over and over until you like, you know, got your fists clenched up and, and, you know, you're wearing the anger on your face and your blood is boiling and your heart is pounding. 08:45.83 Priscilla Horton This is what we can do when we think too much about the single thought that is in our head. 08:58.04 Priscilla Horton And now we can do the same thing with positive thoughts as well. 09:05.04 Priscilla Horton That's why meditation is so great and so important because it causes us to to visualize the life that we want, visualize the person that we desire to be, visualize what success looks like for us, what a healthy relationship looks like for us, what a healthy lifestyle looks like for us. 09:23.18 Priscilla Horton And we can create these stories which create the feelings and the emotions when we think about it a lot. 09:43.56 Priscilla Horton So after I listened to this book, I and did it on Audible, which I love. I was actually snowblowing and got through quite a bit of it. 09:58.70 Priscilla Horton But as i was even listening to this book, these thoughts were popping into my head. And I would pause and ask myself, is this a thought? or Am I thinking? 10:15.77 Priscilla Horton Am I overthinking? 10:18.95 Priscilla Horton I hear people say all the time, I'm i'm an overthinker. I'm an overthinker. Well, let's be careful about what you're speaking on your life. 10:30.95 Priscilla Horton Because when you attach an I am to the front of anything, you live up to that standard. So I want to remind you how powerful your words are. 10:44.54 Priscilla Horton So I was, ever since I read it or listened to it, i have been trying to be very aware in my mind of identifying, am i am i dwelling? Like, am i am i actually 11:03.34 Priscilla Horton thinking too much about this? And it actually happened to me over the weekend. I started to kind of get into my head about some things and I had to, um it took me a little bit to realize it and what was happening. And then I was reminded of this book again. And I'm like, I have so much more power than even realize. 11:25.94 Priscilla Horton So I identified it and I was, I started to shift that story that I was telling myself because we have the power to do that. 11:44.48 Priscilla Horton The author also suggests that treating, if you continue to three, they all 12:06.11 Priscilla Horton we can notice the thoughts, but don't hold onto them. 12:12.31 Priscilla Horton And like I said, meditation or mindfulness can help in this area. My daughter even came up to me the other night and she was asking about meditation. And I was telling her, this is a time where we get to really see our thoughts as those clouds. 12:32.75 Priscilla Horton And we get to have that control and learn how to master our thoughts and our thinking. 12:46.64 Priscilla Horton Something that you might be able to practice um in the weeks to come and the days to come is is that awareness. Instead of engaging with your thoughts, practice being ah an observer. 13:00.87 Priscilla Horton You know, how many of you like to people watch, right? We're the observer. at restaurants, sometimes we just sit and we'll kind of people watch. Or when we're at theme parks or whatever. Sometimes it's just we watch, right? 13:19.17 Priscilla Horton But we can do the same, we can have the same awareness and we can be observers of our own thoughts. 13:35.12 Priscilla Horton It is your true self that is noticing a thought, not the thought itself. 13:48.69 Priscilla Horton And this is something that was also in the book that I have spoke about ah ah couple years ago, maybe three years ago, about the power of questioning the thoughts that come into your head. 14:05.12 Priscilla Horton Is it true? 14:11.64 Priscilla Horton More often than not, and this is what was cool that he described, is that it's really just a passing perspective. Isn't that cool like to think about? It's all these little thought clouds going by. They're just passing perspectives. 14:34.19 Priscilla Horton It's not an ultimate truth. 14:37.87 Priscilla Horton And that is a very, very helpful way to see our thoughts. 14:47.72 Priscilla Horton So next time you're caught up in overthinking, write down the original thought. Where did it stem from? What was it? 15:00.90 Priscilla Horton And then write down the story that your mind created around it. How long did that take? Because oftentimes it doesn't take very long. 15:11.31 Priscilla Horton And then challenge yourself to really let go the story And return back to that neutral thought. This was pretty cool for me to practice this past week. 15:26.17 Priscilla Horton I'm actually quite fascinated by it. I'm fascinated by anything mind related. um i think it's just so incredible that our brain has so much power. 15:38.37 Priscilla Horton And we can use it for our advantage. 15:42.92 Priscilla Horton But oftentimes people don't. 15:49.41 Priscilla Horton So maybe practice this a little bit. 16:10.34 Priscilla Horton Three of my favorite takeaways from the book that just really stood out to me were that your thoughts are not reality. They're just fleeting events in the mind. 16:24.29 Priscilla Horton They are not facts. They are not your truth. 16:30.02 Priscilla Horton They are one single thought. We are the ones that make the stories. 16:41.36 Priscilla Horton You are not your thoughts. You are the awareness behind them and the observer of your mind. I thought that was so cool. 16:54.94 Priscilla Horton An inner peace comes from detachment. I have worked on detaching myself from people and things and ideas and beliefs and all kinds of stuff for the past handful of years. 17:09.64 Priscilla Horton And This is a cool new concept of doing this with our thoughts. The less that we engage with those thoughts and the less that we believe those thoughts, the more peaceful that our minds become. 17:27.41 Priscilla Horton And who wants a peaceful mind? i do. i want to be at peace. I want to sleep in peace. 17:38.03 Priscilla Horton i want to rest when I'm home. i'm home I want to be detached from things that are out of my control. i want to stop doing a job of making up stories that aren't even true. 18:02.03 Priscilla Horton So I wanted to offer a reflective journaling prompt. 18:09.64 Priscilla Horton for all of you. um Journaling prompts have kind of been ah fun, like more recent thing that I've been doing just because it's, if you want to get some thoughts out, sometimes we need a little something to help spark that creativity in our minds. And so I've just really appreciated journaling prompts. So if you would like to do this, 18:35.87 Priscilla Horton The journaling prompt would be what's one reoccurring thought that you have been overthinking. Take some time to write it down and then even ask yourself, what's the story I've been telling myself about this thought? 18:54.10 Priscilla Horton And how would it feel to let that story go? remember remember everything that you've learned here about it, go back, go and listen to the audio book, read it. It's just a real short listen, short read, wonderful, wonderfully written. 19:20.58 Priscilla Horton And so helpful. It's such a great guide to help us to overcome a lot of our own mental suffering. 19:33.71 Priscilla Horton So just a quick recap here. The difference between a thought and thinking 19:41.77 Priscilla Horton is pretty subtle, but powerful. But by learning to observe your thoughts instead of identifying with them, you can free yourself from unnecessary suffering and live with more peace and clarity in your life. Can I get an amen? We all desire that. 20:02.96 Priscilla Horton We all want to be at peace. 20:07.55 Priscilla Horton We all want to not have any more unnecessary suffering in our life. 20:22.67 Priscilla Horton I would love to hear what your biggest takeaway was. And if you decide to read the book, also let me know, like, what was it that really stood out to you? I think the whole thing is fascinating. 20:33.83 Priscilla Horton i would love to hear your thoughts on it. You can DM me ah or share in the comments. 20:43.70 Priscilla Horton You can DM me on Instagram. You can email me at PriscillaHortonCoaching.com. 20:53.00 Priscilla Horton No. 20:55.38 Priscilla Horton Priscilla Horton Coaching at Gmail. 21:10.78 Priscilla Horton I invite you to go deeper with this. 21:15.48 Priscilla Horton Explore ideas 21:19.25 Priscilla Horton on how you can improve this, how you can 21:24.94 Priscilla Horton Utilize this in your own life. How you can challenge those thoughts. 21:33.80 Priscilla Horton How you can challenge your thinking. 21:42.09 Priscilla Horton I know this was a quicker episode, but I wanted to share this book so bad with you. this was supposed to go out last week. So there will be two episodes this week. 21:53.43 Priscilla Horton So stay tuned 21:59.10 Priscilla Horton for the next one And remember, you're not your thoughts. You are the winner awareness behind it. You are infinite and free. 22:15.46 Priscilla Horton Free to think what you desire to think. 22:21.59 Priscilla Horton And believe what you desire to believe. 22:26.71 Priscilla Horton Have a beautiful week, everyone. We'll catch you next time.

Podcast Episode: Creating the Life You Desire: A Life by Design, Not Escape 00:02.45 Priscilla Horton Have you ever felt like you were just surviving instead of living? Maybe you catch yourself fantasizing about escaping your life. Maybe it's quitting your job, running away to an island, or hitting reset just to start all over again. But what if the goal isn't to escape your current life? What if the real goal is to build the one that you want 00:32.24 Priscilla Horton What if the real goal is to build one you don't want to escape from? Today we're talking about it. We're talking about creating a life by design, not default. A life that really feels intentional and aligned and fulfilling. This isn't about waiting for the right time or the perfect circumstances. This is about making the decision that your life as it is right now, 01:02.13 Priscilla Horton is something that you have the power to shape. So let's and dive in. 01:14.78 Priscilla Horton I feel like there's this myth of escaping versus the power of designing. When I first got into real estate years ago, they talked a lot about creating the life that you want to be in. And they would always refer to the life by design, live a life by design. And I didn't understand it for the longest time until one day it just clicked. And realizing that we have the power to create so much of what we experience in the future is mind blowing. 02:00.70 Priscilla Horton when you realize that you can shape your future, that you can create a life that you want to live in, it's a game changer. 02:16.05 Priscilla Horton I feel like there is this illusion of escape. So many of us think that we need to completely escape our lives to be happy, right? If it was, if we only had this, if we only had that, 02:31.20 Priscilla Horton It looks better on the other side. 02:35.94 Priscilla Horton We imagine if we could just be somewhere new or have a new relationship with someone that things would change for us. If we just left certain people behind or we landed that dream job or got what we wanted, everything would magically fall into place. 03:01.66 Priscilla Horton I feel like we've all lived this illusion, right? When we're struggling, when we're feeling a little down on ourselves, those thoughts start to creep in and this illusion of a life that could happen if we left all of this here or if we were there or if we only had this relationship. But escape, 03:31.57 Priscilla Horton is often just a temporary relief from a deeper problem. If we don't address the root, like our mindset, our habits, our beliefs, then we will create the same patterns wherever we go. So if your relationship sucks right now, instead of focusing on the deeper problem, oftentimes it's a much easier thought for us to jump ship, get into another relationship, then the same thing happens. And we, we continue to create this same life that we don't want to live because we're chasing a feeling instead of figuring out the solution to this deeper problem. 04:29.36 Priscilla Horton we just get deeper and deeper into this problem. So do you see that illusion that takes place and happens when, um 04:58.50 Priscilla Horton um, 05:03.58 Priscilla Horton So do you see that illusion? you you might be able to even You might be able to even think about the illusions that you've bought into. I know I have my own. 05:23.10 Priscilla Horton And here's the truth about a life by design. It means that you're not running from something. 05:32.89 Priscilla Horton but you're intentionally creating something better for yourself, for your future. 05:44.68 Priscilla Horton Living a life by design, it means that you're taking ownership of what you want and making conscious choices, even in the small things, even in those everyday moments. 06:02.27 Priscilla Horton You're owning yourself. You're choosing wisely. It's amazing actually how many choices that we make in a day. But we're also making these subconscious choices that can you know lead us back to that illusion, right? 06:31.10 Priscilla Horton So in the same way, we can create these conscious choices that become our subconscious later on so that we're just always choosing wisely. 06:48.84 Priscilla Horton So let me ask you, when you think about your ideal life, are you running toward something meaningful Or are you just running away from something painful? Are you trying to escape your life? If you've ever said any of those things, I just want to be stranded on an island. I just want to go where nobody knows me. 07:25.66 Priscilla Horton then you may be in that, that illusion and you're running from something that's painful. That's, I want you to know that that is a normal brain function though. Okay. Our brain is protecting us and, and does want us to escape pain. So we will pay lots of money to be out of pain. 07:52.68 Priscilla Horton Right? Nobody wants to feel pain. So we think of all of the things that we could do to keep us from pain or to get us out of pain and running away from it is one of those things. 08:23.59 Priscilla Horton So let's talk about this life that you love. This is life that you've designed and you actually want to live. You know, I've said this before, I look around and it just seems like there's dead dead men walking everywhere. And it's because people aren't truly living. They're stuck. 08:49.14 Priscilla Horton They're stuck in this illusion. They're stuck in their fears. They're stuck in complacency. They're stuck in just accepting life as it is and not realizing that they actually have the power to create the life that they love living. 09:11.54 Priscilla Horton And this has been a wake-up call for myself. You know, I was the product of my own suffering for years. I lived out these illusions. I used to tell myself these lies of if I just could go here, if I could just, and I can't tell you how many times I said, I just want to move. I just want to move away from here because I was like, it's a clean slate. It felt like a clean slate. I could start over again, but guess what? I knew when I thought about it, 09:46.55 Priscilla Horton Nothing would change because I hadn't changed. I would continue to take everything that I was then into the new place, the new spaces, the new relationships, the new job, whatever I went into at the time. 10:09.39 Priscilla Horton And 10:13.48 Priscilla Horton I would again be creating a life that I didn't want to live. 10:24.48 Priscilla Horton So one of the first steps that I believe that we can take in creating this life that this life by design is to get crystal clear on what you want. That is something that I did at the beginning of the year, this year, and I've done it for the past few years. Get crystal clear, write it down. What life do you want to live? How do you want to feel every day? What does that look like? What would you be doing? What would your perfect day look like? 11:04.33 Priscilla Horton You see, what happens is many of us know exactly what we don't want. But when someone asks you what you truly want, you'll hesitate. Oh, that's a really good question. I've never considered it. I don't know. 11:31.01 Priscilla Horton So what do you truly want? I think this this actually takes quite a bit of time to consider it because It's much easier for us to focus on our lack. It's more easy for us to focus on the things that we don't want. 11:52.37 Priscilla Horton So we'll just continue through life, staying away and staying clear of all the things we don't want, but what are we running to? This is just us avoiding. This is this is us running away from, but what are we running to? 12:13.75 Priscilla Horton Ask yourself if there were no limits right now, no fear and no guilt and no shoulds. What would your dream life look like? 12:32.83 Priscilla Horton Even close your eyes if you have to. What does this dream life look like? Are the people that are currently in your life there in that dream life of yours? 12:45.27 Priscilla Horton If not, I think that you should probably be questioning some things. 12:57.31 Priscilla Horton What does your ideal day look like? How do you feel when you wake up? What kind of work do you do? How do you take care of yourself? What do you eat? You cannot create a life it 13:15.74 Priscilla Horton without a design. 13:20.53 Priscilla Horton A builder does not just start building a house for somebody based on what's in his head. He sits down with the client and starts creating this design for this home, this dream home that these people want. 13:43.23 Priscilla Horton a design has to be put in place. So every day you are actually designing your life and you don't even realize it. I asked a question on my Instagram page on Groundhog Day because I love Groundhog Day. It has just been such a a neat holiday for me. And I, my first podcast was about Groundhog Day, my own personal Groundhog Day. But the question was, is if you had to live today on repeat. So you had your own Groundhog Day. So this day right now, if you had to live in on repeat, would you change it? 14:39.58 Priscilla Horton Would you love it or would you change it? And everyone except one person said that they would change it. And why is that? Because most of us are living a life by someone else's design. 15:08.72 Priscilla Horton You wake up. think thinking the thoughts that you wake up in autopilot, you go about your day and it's the same mundane thing all the time. 15:37.10 Priscilla Horton So here's an action step that you can actually take right now, if you want to, ah write down, I encourage you to write down one thing that you would change right now if you had the power to. 15:55.23 Priscilla Horton And then when you write that down, I want you to tell yourself, I have the power to do this, because you do. You actually have the power 16:09.32 Priscilla Horton to change things for yourself right now. 16:21.49 Priscilla Horton Another important step in creating the light the life that you desire to live is to rewire your brain around what's possible. 16:39.44 Priscilla Horton Many of us don't even pursue, many people, 16:48.83 Priscilla Horton if you've ever read the book, The Five Most Regrets of the Dying, if you haven't, I encourage you to read it, but if you have and you know, most people, 17:09.59 Priscilla Horton go to their deathbed, not living the life that they desired to live. 17:19.46 Priscilla Horton Most people do not pursue the life that they want because they've already told themselves that it's not possible, that it's not in the cards for them. 17:36.94 Priscilla Horton Think about some of the common limiting beliefs. Maybe even you have around pursuing this life that you want. Maybe, maybe it's selfish. Maybe you feel like it's selfish. Maybe you really feel like that you're not qualified. You don't have enough time that it's too late for you. 18:02.74 Priscilla Horton All of those things are holding you back. They are keeping you 18:09.42 Priscilla Horton from living an incredible life. And that is always sad to me. I literally get so heartbroken when I see somebody go to their death bed, not living the life that they dreamed of. 18:32.87 Priscilla Horton And actually this morning, 18:37.45 Priscilla Horton I had some heartbreaking news that one of my aunts had passed away. And this is an aunt that I was close to for for a very long time who had helped me get through a lot of pain and rejection that I felt for a long time. She came in and she, she saw me. 19:07.57 Priscilla Horton She understood me. She poured into me. And what saddens me about the whole thing is that she didn't get to live the life that she dreamed of. And I see this over and over and over again in people's lives. 19:35.62 Priscilla Horton I check in with myself quite often. Am I living the life that I desire? I know that I'm not. Now, did I dream of this over what I had even five years ago? Absolutely. I'm doing much better than I i was eight years ago. I'm in a completely different place in my mindset. Eight years ago, I wouldn't have been podcasting. Eight years ago, I wouldn't have been creating programs and 20:08.33 Priscilla Horton challenges for other women. 20:16.14 Priscilla Horton Because I didn't think I knew enough. And I still don't think I know enough. But here's the thing is I've reframed it. I don't let that thought stop me anymore because I know that when it does, I'm not truly living. 20:35.04 Priscilla Horton So reframe whatever those limiting beliefs are that keep coming up, that keep telling you that you are not capable of living a life by design. Catch yourself when you say things like, I can't. 20:56.40 Priscilla Horton Or it's just not possible. 21:10.74 Priscilla Horton And step number three in creating this life by design is to start small and take action to today. A life by design doesn't require you to change everything or overhaul everything in one night. That's not possible. 21:38.81 Priscilla Horton It really starts with small choices. One of my favorite books is The Compound Effect and by Darren Hardy, and he talks so much about the small things that we do every day, the the habits that we do every day over time, compounds, and it becomes who we are and what we do. 22:13.97 Priscilla Horton You know, part of when I was in Oregon, I think this was back in 2019, I went to this tower, super tall. I forgot how many steps, like, I don't know, 200, maybe more steps. But I just remember looking at this tower, like standing at the bottom of it before we went in and started to climb. And I was just like, oh my gosh, am I going to be able to do this? And I did it. And how did I do that? One step at a time, right? 22:54.93 Priscilla Horton I'm sitting here and I'm looking at one of my quotes from February 3rd and it reads, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. How fitting that that was still open as I'm recording this podcast. How cool. It really does. Don't look at the, the bigger picture when we see it is only for us to 23:25.04 Priscilla Horton to see what we need to do to make that dream happen. And then other than that, we are looking at the steps, the habits, the little things that are going to get us there. So it starts with all these small choices. 23:44.93 Priscilla Horton So what can you do today? 23:50.81 Priscilla Horton If you want a healthier lifestyle, what can you change about your current lifestyle, your current health today? Maybe it's drinking one less soda. Maybe it's five minutes of movement today. 24:10.01 Priscilla Horton If you want to have your own business, work for yourself. Research one step that you could take in that direction today. Learn more about what that skill is. 24:24.55 Priscilla Horton If you want to live a more happier, fulfilling life, then maybe that's listing a few things that you're grateful for right now. Maybe it's pointing out some of your favorite qualities about yourself. 24:48.37 Priscilla Horton And I'm just going to drop the biggest truth bomb right now. 24:55.65 Priscilla Horton You don't need to wait for permission to start creating your dream life. The first step right now is deciding that it's possible, that it's possible for you, that it can be done, that you hold the power, that you have everything you need inside of you. You don't need permission. You don't need a perfect opportunity. You don't need the perfect timing. 25:25.21 Priscilla Horton You can start designing this life right now. 25:32.35 Priscilla Horton Go to pen and paper. Start writing the blueprint for this life that you desire to live. 25:56.78 Priscilla Horton I know a quote that has been out and it's a really hard one to swallow because our brain always wants us to have an excuse. And the quote is, and in hear me out, like you're gonna, you may have your own feelings toward this, but I do believe this wholeheartedly that what we're not changing we are choosing, plain and simple. What you're not changing, you are choosing. 26:40.18 Priscilla Horton You have so much power in your court. 27:07.73 Priscilla Horton Think about your own life right now. Maybe you are feeling stuck. You're feeling like escaping. 27:25.36 Priscilla Horton You didn't listen to this episode by chance. 27:37.89 Priscilla Horton It's time to start designing the life that you don't feel like you want to escape from, but a life that you want to live. 28:04.07 Priscilla Horton Like I said earlier, I, when I first heard this concept in real estate and they talked about it for so long, I was, I just felt stuck. I didn't understand it. What do you mean? I can't design this life without a bunch of money. And see that's, that's seen the whole staircase instead of the steps. 28:38.68 Priscilla Horton And so when it dawned on me, when I had gone through some mindset work and it had dawned on me, oh my gosh, I totally missed the whole purpose of what they were saying. It was my decisions, the decisions that I was making every day, the way that I was getting up, the thing the things that I was choosing to spend time on, all of those things, 29:09.07 Priscilla Horton We're creating a life, whether good or bad. And I'll tell you, I was creating a life I really didn't want to be in. 29:27.52 Priscilla Horton The cool thing about mindset is that we can shift it. That the cool thing about the brain is that we can rewire it. Are we willing to do it? Are you willing to do it? 29:39.53 Priscilla Horton Are you willing right now to say yes to your future, yes to you, yes to this life that you desire to live? 29:58.69 Priscilla Horton This starts with the belief. What do we believe that we're able to do? 30:09.11 Priscilla Horton And it starts with those small steps, those small changes, those bite-sized pieces that become the whole design, that become the whole house, that become the whole life. 30:34.78 Priscilla Horton You see, think of somebody right now who inspires you. It could be an actor, it could be a podcaster, it could be a friend, it could be a family member, someone that you go to church with, somebody that you work with. What is it about their life that you love? 30:55.13 Priscilla Horton I want you to know that if it's possible for them, it is possible for you. There is nothing more special 31:08.80 Priscilla Horton about them than you. Don't buy into that lie. The problem is is that most people don't want to take action. They don't want to put in the hard work because it is work. It is work to create the life that you want to live in. 31:34.97 Priscilla Horton But wouldn't you rather spend the next two years creating that life and live the rest of your life in a life that you enjoy? Or would you rather not do anything and live the rest of your life miserable, feeling like you're lacking something? 31:54.92 Priscilla Horton I know that I don't want to give up on my dreams. I don't want to give up on this life that I desire to live. 32:07.14 Priscilla Horton And so every day, whatever that means for me, instead of going to the TV, I'm gonna put in some work. I'm gonna pour into myself. I'm gonna figure out a couple of steps that I need to move forward. 32:34.67 Priscilla Horton You are not meant to live a life that feels like a constant cycle of burnout and frustration or waiting for the weekend. You know, you hear people say like, thank God it's Friday. And then Monday comes and it's like, Monday sucks. Well, that's a mindset issue. Nobody wants to live that life, that that constant cycle. 33:02.02 Priscilla Horton You are meant to build a life that excites you, that fulfills you and gives you purpose every single day. And the best part of it is that you get to choose. You get to choose. 33:20.72 Priscilla Horton I hope you all got so much out of this episode and it resonated with you. Confirmation Bias is the tendency to seek out, interpret, and remember information that confirms what we already believe. In other words, we pay more attention to things that back up our views, and we conveniently ignore anything that challenges them. This bias can affect everything-from the decisions we make in our daily lives, to how we interact with people who have different perspectives.
