In today's episode from S1E1, I will go back to my chat with Hya. Her story is about a young Filipino mom who moved to the Netherlands with her husband and toddler after he landed a job abroad. She shares her experience of adjusting to life as an expat mom in a new culture, far from family and familiar routines. Finding her footing as a parent, she opens up about the emotional and practical challenges of raising a child overseas. She also reflects on the strong support she found in the local community, embracing the saying, “It takes a village to raise a child.” If you’re a Filipino parent, an expat or immigrant, part of an interracial family, or just a fellow kababayan curious about life here abroad, this kuwentuhan is something you wouldn’t want to miss! On today's clip from S2E1, babalikan po natin ang aking kuwentuhan with Rona, a Filipino mom living in Denmark. With many Filipinos dreaming of building a new life abroad, what happens when years of living in a country still do not guarantee residency? Paano na yon? Rona has lived for almost 8 years in Denmark but is still facing the challenges of securing permanent residency. She opens up about the realities of studying, working, and raising a family in Denmark, and what Filipinos should know before making the big move. If you’re a Filipino parent, an expat or immigrant, part of an interracial family, or just a fellow kababayan curious about life here abroad, this kuwentuhan is something you wouldn’t want to miss! In this episode po, I’ll talk about the ever-relevant issue of screen time and how it impacts our preteens’ behavior at home and our family dynamics. As an interracial Filipino-Dutch family living in the Netherlands, we recently switched to a negotiation parenting approach — inspired by Dutch culture — to solve (or at least try to solve) our screen time issues and improve discipline here at home. I’ll compare Filipino parenting values with Western practices and reflect on the West vs East culture gap. If you're on the same boat as me, also struggling to find that balance, this episode offers a new perspective on parenting in a tech-heavy world! Happy listening! On today’s clip from S1E2, I will go back to my chat with Eva, a Filipino mom in The Netherlands, who has chosen to raise her daughter with a 60-40 parenting approach, favoring Filipino values over the Dutch culture. Pag-uusapan po namin ang mga rason why she made this choice, what were her challenges, and how did it affect her relationship with her husband. Eva shares her unique experience raising their biracial child while staying true to her roots. If you’re a Filipino parent abroad, part of an interracial family, or just curious about a different kind of parenting style, this kuwentuhan is something you wouldn’t want to miss! Meet Rona Kjerumgaard from Slagelse, Denmark. She is originally from Albay in the Bikol region of the Philippines. It was Rona's first time to travel abroad when she moved to Denmark and little did she know, the adjustments and challenges she faced living in a new culture and a completely different environment than she is used to back home, taught her to be more resilient and even more so, empowered. And I must say.. the changes brought about this move are paying off quite well, little by little. For our first episode on our 2nd season, please listen and enjoy!
