July 12, 2026 | Week 2 of the Disciple's Handbook (Matthew 5:17-30)
You Have Heard (Part I) Jesus completely fulfilled the Old Testament law to shift our focus from outward rules to a transformed heart. True disciples possess a deeper righteousness that targets internal motives, not just outward actions. Because internal anger carries the same weight as murder, believers must act like firefighters, running directly into conflict to pursue swift reconciliation. Likewise, battling lust requires ruthless spiritual surgery rather than superficial symptom management. Since sin originates in the heart, disciples must proactively cut off whatever causes them to stumble. Ultimately, Christ endured the fire of judgment to provide us with clean, obedient hearts.
July 5, 2026 | Week 1 of The Disciple's Handbook (Matthew 5:1-16)
Kingdom Values and Responsibilities... A disciple is an apprentice who sits at the feet of Jesus to replicate His lifestyle and teachings. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus outlines the ideal "good life" for His disciples through the Beatitudes. What we discover in these passages is that Jesus is focused not just on the question of how we behave but what kind of people we are. As we read them, it is apparent that we cannot become like this on our own; but with Jesus at work in us, we can be transformed in a way that leads to our happiness and God's glory.
June 28, 2026 | Week 10 of Foolish Church (1 Corinthians 6:12-20)
Purchased at a price... A thing's purpose directly reflects its design; similarly, the human body was created not for sexual compromise, but for the Lord. While modern culture insists every physical desire must be gratified, believers are called to resist being mastered by our urges. Because the Holy Spirit lives within Christians, their physical bodies are sacred and intimately joined to Christ. Stepping outside this design brings empty shame, but Jesus offers true freedom and raises us to a life of glory because we've been purchased by the perfect blood of Christ. Our physical bodies should be used for the glory of the Lord who purchased them with the immeasurable price of His Son.
June 21, 2026 | Week 9 of Foolish Church (1 Corinthians 6:1-11)
Seeing With Heavenly Perspective... At the root of most conflict is a perspective problem, where trivial earthly matters are treated as monumental. Rather than settling grievances internally, believers in Corinth are mimicking broken cultural patterns by dragging each other into public, secular courts. This behavior publicly advertised their spiritual immaturity and damaged the church's collective witness. Scripture shows us a better way to resolve conflict: direct, private, humble, and with our eyes on what's ahead of us, not behind us. Conflict is inescapable, dysfunction isn't.
June 14, 2026 | Week 7 of Foolish Church (1 Corinthians 4:6-21)
A Little Leaven... Deep love for the church and for Christ requires taking sin seriously rather than ignoring destructive choices. In 1 Corinthians 5, Paul calls the church to be proactive in confronting unrepentant sin. Church discipline isn't about spite or rejection, it is an act of grace to humble a hardened heart, rescue a stumbling believer, and restore them safely back to fellowship. Because Jesus gave His life as our spotless sacrifice, we honor Him by pursuing a sincere, holy, and repentant church where Christ is honored.
