But his legacy lives on- in iconic records like Fuji Garbage; in successive Fuji musicians like K1 de Ultimate, Saheed Osupa, Pasuma Wonder and many others- and most importantly, the influence of Fuji on Nigerian pop culture. After an eight-year stint in the Nigerian Army, Sikiru Ayinde Barrister now faced music squarely and through the 1970s and 1980s, he elevated Fuji music to be at par by Juju music. By the 1990s however, Fuji music became the number 1 traditional music genre in Nigeria. Young Sikiru Ayinde Balogun started out as a wéré singer. In 1966, he decided that he no longer wanted his music to be limited in its reach and he created Fuji from its wéré and ajísàrì roots. But before then, he had to learn the ropes, join the army and develop the genre's sound- all by himself. Barrister was a colossus. He created Fuji music and was the biggest star in that genre. But he never settled and continued to evolve the sound until his death in 2010.
